Food Bazaar Supermarket
Opened: 2024
In the middle, it looks like what may eventually be a bakery counter was being installed at the front of the new wall. This store doesn't have a service bakery.
The rest of the bakery remains on the front wall, opposite that counter. What I thought might be the new home of the deli is in fact an expansion of the produce department.
The newly relocated produce department is now fully stocked.
Here's a look across the new produce department, with the meat department behind the sign that says produce to the left.
The right-side wall of the store -- previously soda and beer -- is now refrigerated produce and meat.
The former pharmacy has been removed entirely, leaving only what appears to be offices on the second floor, with vegetables now occupying the area.
This was the pharmacy when Pathmark was here, and Stop & Shop also kept the pharmacy for a few years. Then, this corner became a staging area for online orders. Food Bazaar doesn't have an in-house online ordering system (they use Instacart and don't have in-store pickup, only delivery) so they had no need for that space.
Frozen seafood is in the front-right corner -- a rather strange location for it, given that the service seafood counter is on the back wall. I also noticed that baked goods are split between the bakery department in the front-right corner and the deli in the back-left corner. Some of those things might be temporary during the remodel, but it remains to be seen whether these layout things will be nailed down.
Produce continues along the right-side wall. This area used to be grocery aisles.
Looking back over towards the grocery aisles on the left side. You can see the framing for the glass panels that will eventually separate the two parts of the store.
As an aside, the Piscataway location (also acquired from Stop & Shop in 2024; scroll down on that post past Carlstadt) has closed for renovations. It hadn't gotten any updates at all since opening, and the store was largely original from when Edwards opened in the 1990s. I still wonder why the store wasn't simply closed during the transition between Stop & Shop and Food Bazaar.
Behind the new produce department is the new meat department, which is mostly set up but not fully.
Packaged meats are behind the produce department, which is on the other side of the case below.
There's no service butcher counter (yet?) but there's clearly more fixtures still to go in. The meat room is or used to be to the left of the seafood counter, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's moved to the right of the seafood counter.
I also anticipate the seafood counter will be expanded, since this is still much smaller than other locations'.
The first few grocery aisles were still being set up.
This shelving isn't new, and may have just been moved from the right side of the store. This store lost a few grocery aisles in the renovation to expand the perimeter departments -- there used to be seven grocery aisles to the right of the produce department, and there are only three that have been added in what used to be the produce department.
The other grocery aisles have remained unchanged.
It looks like the previous meat department will be home to more grocery shelving, probably to offset the loss of a few aisles.
Deli and some baked goods are in the back-left corner, and this area might not change.
New signage in the frozen and dairy aisles...
And, again to offset the loss of a few grocery aisles, snacks and beverages are in the front-left corner in some new, short aisles.
The front end hasn't really changed, and even still has Stop & Shop checkout lane markers.
I'll be back soon to check out the store, which must be almost done by now, but in the meantime...

Merry Christmas! Wait a minute -- these pictures are from about a month ago, and so you will in fact see some holiday decorations in them. I've been very busy recently myself, and so we're a bit delayed on checking back in with the Cropsey Avenue Food Bazaar as it continues to get a renovation. The store is moving along, with the layout roughly finalized (although we'll see what continues to happen). The big change is that the produce department has been moved. Below, you can see where the produce department used to be, which has now been replaced by a couple grocery aisles. The lighting running front-to-back is new, over what used to be the produce department, and the side-to-side lighting is over the previous grocery aisles. A wall is also being constructed between this part of the store and the perishables departments on the right side.Previous Tenants: Pathmark (1970-2015) > Stop & Shop (2015-2024)
