SuperFresh
And great news from the outside of the store! The oddly-shaped sign, which used to read Food World IGA, has been replaced with SuperFresh signage in a SuperFresh-shaped outline. The inside, though, hasn't changed much...
This store opened in early 2024, but closed due to fire damage several months in and reopened in 2025.
Like Maplewood, this seems to be a rather low-volume store, but all the essentials are here.
That said, this is very different from the average SuperFresh. Most SuperFresh stores are in urban areas, and most are larger than this store at just 8,000 square feet. Many have large produce departments, but this one has a tiny produce corner. Many have large selections of international foods, this one has very few international foods. It's really a small-town supermarket, just a very different format. Nothing wrong with that, of course!
There are about 45 SuperFresh stores in operation today, and the Key Food cooperative is just under 500 stores in total (approximately). Allegiance is a much smaller (and, unfortunately, mostly shrinking) cooperative, representing around 150 stores.
Adam Shapiro, who owns this store and three others, was the director of operations for an Allegiance member, Jack's Foodtown. I don't know if he still is, or if those four Foodtown stores have any plans to leave Allegiance and join Key Food as these did. So far, there are no signs of that.

Signage has been replaced up at the front with the SuperFresh logo covering up any previous Bloomingdale Supermarket or Foodtown logos...

Time for a return to the small town of Bloomingdale, NJ, ten miles northwest of Paterson and about 11 from the New York border. The small supermarket in town has changed brands, switching from Bloomingdale Supermarket by Foodtown to SuperFresh. We're here to follow up on a previous visit showing the transition in progress.
