NeoVista Fresh Market
Opening: TBA
Owner: NeoVista Equities
Previous Tenants: non-grocery tenants
We travel to Albany today, to see some pictures sent in by our longtime contributor Lars. NeoVista Fresh Market has announced its arrival at 52 James Street in the center of the city. It's the latest creation of the NeoVista Equities private equity group with expanding holdings across the city, including the venerable Jack's Oyster House and other restaurants. But this group is slightly strange, and it's not clear they actually are getting into the supermarket business despite promising that it's coming soon.Cooperative: unknown

Two of the three notices spotted by Lars on the storefront are outdated, and despite a valid permit to gut the building's interior, he reports there was no evidence of any such work going on inside. A promised Brooklyn location at 836 Broadway seems to have similarly stagnated, or more accurately never made it beyond the planning phases (while managing to rack up several health violations in the process).
NeoVista owns this building, and the East Stone Properties Corp. entity listed here appears to be related to NeoVista. Unlike Key Food Island, another confusing grocer-in-the-making, NeoVista does appear to be a current, operating company (and appears to be legit if disorganized). So these NeoVista stores do seem likely to open. When? Nobody knows, apparently.
I'm keeping my eye on this for now, but in the meantime, here's this weekend's other posts!
Saturday
- Unusual grocers announce themselves in Albany and Staten Island
- A large Indian supermarket opens in central Jersey
- A Brooklyn grocer completes a renovation just a few years after opening
- Returning to a Philly ACME under renovation
Sunday
- ShopRite and Food Bazaar open stunning new locations
- Plus, we check in on another ShopRite's remodel
- Key Food opens in Matawan while converting two stores in Queens

As you mention, they have taken over Jack's restaurant, and have also been working up several other eating places under that branding around the city with differing themes (like Jack's burgers, Jack's this or that), so I think they may just be trying to do too many things at one time and that is why this one got left behind.
