Yep, that's a former grocery store. It might just look like a strange foyer entrance to the house above it, but the tiny brick-and-siding extension at the bottom of this house in Forest Hills was a grocery store previously, and if I had to guess I'd say it's probably original to the house. You don't even have to go back that far on Google Maps' street view to see the awning of the store that last occupied the space. For some context, this store is on Walk Hill Street just east of the corner of Hyde Park Avenue, about two miles north of the America's Food Basket we saw on Hyde Park Avenue. And while I don't know what grocery store might have been here originally, I do know (thanks to Groceteria) that the brick building to the left of this one was an A&P from the late 1920s to the early 1940s. There's no longer a grocery store here in the southern part of Forest Hills, but until recently there was actually one just around the corner from here.
