The small town of Daleville, PA has a massive ShopRite of roughly 75,000 square feet. The store moved at some point from across the mall, and around 2005, the store was switched from ShurSave to ShopRite when the owner left AWI and joined Wakefern.
Here's a 2007 picture shortly after the conversion, where we can clearly see the remnants of the ShurSave name. It looks like the signage we see here has since been removed and replaced with new lettering.
Here's a look at the grand aisle on the right side of the store. We have prepared foods, deli, and seafood on the right side, and produce on the left side of the grand aisle. Baked goods and meat are on the back wall, with dairy and pharmacy/HABA on the far left side. Frozen foods take up a large area, mostly in older-style coffin cases in the grocery aisles.
We can tell this store has gotten some renovation relatively recently, and it looks really good, especially on the perimeter. The flooring is also nice and updated around the whole store.
To our right on the far right of the grand aisle is the prepared foods area and the beer & wine cafe area.
I really like both the decor and the flooring here! The ceiling is a bit low, but it's made up for my the spaciousness of the store. And have we ever seen a round lobster island before?
The large produce department. There are very few supermarkets between route 80 and the Wyoming Valley, meaning that there's a solid roughly 10 miles before you hit another grocery store. That, I assume, is why this is a pretty high-volume and large store.
I really like this backlit decor in the meat department! I think the hanging signage is beginning to look a little dated, but the bones are good.
And much like the perimeter, the grocery aisles are very spacious. Notice the signage on the front end for "thanks for shopping at Bill's" instead of ShopRite -- this store and the other longtime Bill's store tend to lean more into the Bill's branding, while the newer location in Moosic seems to be more strongly ShopRite-branded. That's likely a result of the fact that the older two were not planned or designed for ShopRite, but for ShurSave.
Looking towards the grand aisle on the back wall.
It does look like some of the aisles are a bit narrower than others, like aisle 10 here.
Meanwhile, the frozen foods department is massive and feels even larger because most of the department has coffin cases stretching around halfway to the back of the store.
And behind that are newer (almost brand-new, it looks like) upright freezers.
Dairy is down on the left side of the store, shown here on the outside wall.
And before we get to the end of the tour, we will take a quick look at nonfoods and HABA, of which there is also a very large selection. Again, that's probably because there aren't that many shopping choices of any kind in this area.
And the pharmacy is in the front left corner. There's also a drive-through pharmacy.
And a look at the front-end before we move along!
I liked this store a lot, and I also like Bill's other location that I've visited. But before we can go there, we're going to head south about 12 miles for a look at a midsized supermarket on The Independent Edition!
