Much like their first NJ location, up in Ramsey , along with their others in New York, the Morris Plains store is truly an amusement park of Italian food, but it's also a great supermarket. By the way, you'll notice that last time, I posted Uncle G on The Independent Edition, where I typically feature independent stores and chains under 6-8 locations. By now, Uncle G is a fast-growing 10-location chain with at least one more on the way -- which they haven't actually announced yet, but it's coming nonetheless to the former ACME/A&P in Tinton Falls . Original Tenant: ACME Markets Address: 329 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, NJ Opened:  1978 in existing building, 1953 in previous building on site Closed:  2021 Later Tenants:  vacant Photographed:  January 2022 We are covering two recently-closed ACMEs here in NJ today, with the first here in Morris Plains! The store closed in 2021 with redevelopment plans coming soon, possibly. We last saw the place in December as it was going through its closing procedures. The redevelopments have been discussed for some time, but nothing really has taken hold yet. So at least as of January 2022, the building was still a hulking shell of an ACME just with the signage and interior removed. As Acme Style taught us long ago, this store would've originally had the Super Saver facade (still visible) but in the early 2000s was extensively renovated inside and out, including the Industrial Circus decor inside. This was the outside of a Starbucks, later turned into just a plain ol' cafe...

Stop & Shop Opened: 2001 Previous Tenants:  Edwards (late 1990s-2001) Location:  245 Littleton Rd, Morris Plains, NJ Photographed:  June 2020 We are heading across Littleton Rd from our other post today, the former ShopRite in Morris Plains, for a look at the Stop & Shop (formerly Edwards) at Littleton (Route 202) and Route 10. Acme Style covered this store back in 2013, and not a whole lot has changed since then although we'll see the deli department has been remodeled and it seems that new lighting had been put into the grand aisle.  The 67,000 square foot store seemed to me to be looking a little better than when Acme Style visited. The decor package seen here is the ultra-no-frills version of the mid-2000s decor package put in a lot of Stop & Shop stores, and it looks much better in Union where there's a more deluxe version of it.
