Update: Kings Food Markets!

Let's take a look at what's been going on at our local Kings Food Markets, starting with the only store that's having any real changes... Livingston We begin our return to Livingston Kings with another unsuccessful Summer Entertaining display (remember that last time , it was toilet paper). And this time it's laundry detergent. Now for the real updates, in chronological order: July 6:  Beverage case in the back between bakery and the future kosher department is beginning to thin out in preparation for its move to the front-end where greeting cards used to be. Below is the new case which was installed behind the self checkouts. July 8:  After briefly disappearing, greeting cards have been moved around the corner from where they used to be. See the track lighting on the ceiling to the right of the wall below? That's where the new beverage case is, and where the greeting cards used to be. Also July 8:  The old beverage case was removed from the back and the kosher depa...

Update: Kings Food Markets!

Florham Park What's our usual collection of updates without at least one ACME and at least one Kings? I returned to the Kings in Florham Park, which we toured not too long ago, to coincidentally capture the beautiful sunset over the store. That stunning picture was a pleasant surprise, but not what I came to the store for. What is, in fact, very noticeable is that inside the lighting has been replaced. Not quite as beautiful as the sunset, but still brightens up the store a great deal. If you check back to the original post (pre-ACME), you can see the squares used to have those older fixtures with the reflective grate over the light itself. These newer ones have also appeared in multiple other stores including the Kenilworth ACME . Not sure if you can see them in my pictures, but I've noticed them in-store. If you look back at any of my pre-acquisition Kings store tours, you can really clearly see just how dingy a lot of the stores were. They're looking much better now. ...

184 Columbia Tpk, Florham Park, NJ

Original Tenant:  Unknown Address:  184 Columbia Tpk, Florham Park, NJ Opened:  Unknown Closed:  Unknown Later Tenants: subdivided/Retro Fitness Photographed: November 2020 So it seems that I didn't do my homework before photographing the stores here in Florham Park. I photographed this store at the back of Crescent Plaza assuming it was a supermarket at some point, which it was not (I don't think, although it's still possible I suppose). Instead, it looks like it was built as a Drug Fair although it has a strong supermarket appearance. There's even still a cart corral visible along Retro Fitness's front sidewalk. There was also a Grand Union across Columbia Turnpike, and there's now a Trader Joe's next door along with a Kings in this same mall, which is our other post for the day. That wraps up the Morristown area, and tomorrow we'll be taking a look at what's next!

TOUR: Kings Food Markets - Florham Park, NJ

Kings Food Markets Opened: late 1990s Previous Tenants:  Village Market (closed late 1990s) Location:  184 Columbia Tpk, Florham Park, NJ Photographed:  November 2020 and August 2021 It's the final day of our greater Morristown group! We are here in Florham Park for two stores, the first being this Kings Food Market and the other being a store that's probably not  a former supermarket but oh well, you win some you lose some. This Kings seems to have been constructed by Village Super Market (a ShopRite operator whose Cedar Knolls location we saw most recently) but it's unclear whether or not this was ever a ShopRite; there was in fact a ShopRite in Florham Park just about 1000 feet south as the crow flies at 172 Ridgedale Ave, although it's been demolished and it's unclear whether that was a Village store. So whether or not this store was ever a ShopRite, it did become a Village Market in the 90s along with Morristown and South Orange (the original Village), and...
