Snapshot: DeCicco Family Markets - Jefferson Valley, NY

DeCicco Family Markets Owner:  Frank & Christina DeCicco Opened:  2003 Previous Tenants:  D'Agostino Cooperative:  Krasdale Location:  3651 Lee Rd, Jefferson Valley, NY Photographed:  May 2019 Apologies for the photographic mediocrity today. I had 26 stores to get to this day, so there was unfortunately no time to stop here. This store was previously a D'Agostino, and the 17,000 square foot location was taken over by the DeCicco family in 2003. I believe it opened as a CTown and at some later point was converted to DeCicco Marketplace (now DeCicco Family Markets, to distinguish from DeCicco & Sons ). I'm willing to bet that this location was not built as a D'Agostino. Can anyone offer insight as to what it was previously? Anyway, Jefferson Valley (part of Yorktown) is our last Westchester stop, next we're taking a slight detour off of US-6 to Mahopac Falls in Putnam County, where we'll see a store tomorrow on The Independent...

Look Inside: D'Agostino - Lenox Hill South, Manhattan, NY

Today we have a look inside at one of the two Lenox Hill D'Agostinos, as we've seen the Lenox Hill North location here . Our pictures of this store come to The Market Report courtesy of contributor Laura E.! It looks like this store is pretty newly renovated, and it looks great. Here's what older D'Agostinos look like. Kind of hard to determine a layout from these pictures, but it's looking like most of the store's floor space is taken up by the perishable departments, with maybe five aisles. Looks like dairy is on the back wall, with frozen in the last aisle. And a nicely updated front end! This store is located at 966 1st Ave, and you can see the exterior here . Photographed July 2019

Snapshot: D'Agostino - West Village, Manhattan, NY

This D'Agostino is a perfectly acceptable supermarket, though nothing special. It's in better shape than most of the D'Agostinos I've been to, and the building is certainly more interesting. It looks like the lower brick building to the left (the store now extends into the two-story building on the right) might be a very old supermarket, maybe an early location of the D'Agostino chain. This store, located at 790 Greenwich St, Manhattan, has some amazing sales. Excuse me, amazig. D'Agostino always has high prices, but I think it's worth considering they're one of the very few supermarkets that actually operates in the neighborhoods they're in. But not in the way you might think -- they run stores in some of the most affluent (and highest-rent) neighborhoods of Manhattan, meaning that all the lower-cost stores have been driven out of business by rising rents. So I don't think it's particularly helpful to say that Food Bazaar usually has ...

That quintessential New York store - D'Agostino! Owned by the Red Apple Group, which also owns Gristedes, D'Ag is an Allegiance member. The black, red, and green color scheme is immediately recognizable across the city. This store is located at 1074 Lexington Ave at 76th St. Photographed August 2016

Look Inside: D'Agostino - Gramercy Park

We're back in Gramercy Park , Manhattan for a quick look at a D'Agostino Supermarket that is clearly past its prime... ... way  past its prime. It's obvious that this store was the coolest, most modern thing around when it opened, but that was probably at least 20 years ago. (Notice that the green and red stripes are actually 3-D strips set a few inches in front of the black panel.) A quick look at the frozen foods aisle, the last aisle in the store. It's pretty closely representative of the entire store. Somewhat cool, somewhat dingy, not bad but not great either. At least my cashier was very friendly.
