Harris Teeter Opened: 2016 Location:  301 W Broad St, Falls Church, VA Photographed:  February 2021 Contributor:  L.D. Another DC area Harris Teeter (which is where I visited my very first Harris Teeter, way way back around 2010), this one in the ground floor of a new(-ish) development in downtown Falls Church. The development was constructed in 2015-16 with the Harris Teeter opening at the end of that period. Very hard to tell exactly how large this store is, since I can't get a good sense of the footprint from the air. But it might be somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 square feet. Tomorrow we're going to head about two miles southeast, within Falls Church, to check out the big chain in the DC area that we haven't seen yet. Come back on Monday to check it out!

Right across the street from yesterday's Safeway is this Harris Teeter, which looks like a mid-00s new build store. It's just slightly smaller than Safeway, at around 37,000 square feet. We unfortunately don't have any photos of the interior, but if you're curious, you can check out our store tour of the Harris Teeter in Mount Pleasant, SC here (looks like they have the same decor package). Well, we had two Safeways in a row and now we have two Harris Teeters in a row, with our store tomorrow over in Falls Church. Come back to check it out!

Harris Teeter Opened: 2013 Previous Tenants:  Piggly Wiggly Location:  515 Freshfields Dr, Johns Island/Kiawah Island, SC Photographed:  January 2022 Now are we on Johns Island, Kiawah Island, or Seabrook Island? Well, Google Maps says Freshfields Village, the upscale plaza where this grocery store is (it's set up more like a recreation of a downtown than a standard strip mall), is on Johns Island (it's not). Freshfields Village itself says it's on Kiawah Island (it's not). Geographically, it's actually on Seabrook Island, which is to the west of Kiawah and to the south of Johns, but nobody identifies this part of the island as Seabrook. Anyhow, we are here to tour the Village Market by Harris Teeter at Freshfields Village! This is the only full supermarket in the southern Johns/Kiawah/Seabrook Island area, and once again we see that the store is scaled back for the off-season since this area is tourist-heavy. Harris Teeter Opened: 2013 Previous Tenants:  Piggly Wiggly Location:  1985 Folly Rd, James Island, Charleston, SC Photographed:  January 2022 Our final store along Folly Road is the southernmost on James Island, and the third Harris Teeter on Folly. (See the first here , and I have not photographed the second.) Like the first, this one was a Piggly Wiggly acquired in 2013 by Harris Teeter. The second, at 675 Folly, was not previously a Piggly Wiggly. Well, the whole point of driving out all this way was to go visit Folly Beach, which is located on Folly Island which has just one grocery store. Head over to The Independent Edition tomorrow to check it out! Update   Local expert Carlton Swift  says: "This was the first Harris Teeter to offer gas—All because of the acquisition of Piggly Wiggly. Many other locations have since been built with a gas & convenience store, but this was the first to have it."

Harris Teeter Opened: 2013 Previous Tenants:  Piggly Wiggly Location:  1739 Maybank Hwy, James Island, Charleston, SC Photographed:  January 2022 We are just to the southwest of downtown Charleston as we are moving south along Folly Road, which takes us out to Folly Island via James Island. This Harris Teeter is at the corner of Folly Road and Maybank Highway, and its address is on Maybank, which runs along its side. By the way, this store is on James Island (Google Maps still identifies this as part of Charleston, which is why I'm labeling it as both), and from here on out you can say goodbye to the mainland because we'll be completely on the islands for the rest of our time in South Carolina! We'll be spending a few days on James Island, then moving on to Folly Island to the south, then on to Johns, Kiawah, and Wadmalaw Islands to the west. Harris Teeter Opened: 2013 Previous Tenants: Piggly Wiggly Location: 1220 Ben Sawyer Blvd, Sea Island Shopping Center, Mount Pleasant, SC Photographed: January 2022 Today's store tour is a very interesting one! I don't normally find Harris Teeters that exciting, but this one has an interesting backstory. It's one of five Teeters in Mount Pleasant, an affluent suburb to the east of Charleston. And until 2013, this store was a Piggly Wiggly . It seems that Piggly Wiggly, not too long before they closed, expanded the store from its original 22,000 square feet to its present 35,000, and presumably redid the interior too. Despite that, Harris Teeter extensively remodeled the interior again when they moved in , but as we see they didn't do much to the exterior. We enter to deli-bakery in the front right corner, with produce in the back right corner. The first aisle is a liquor store, with meat and seafood on the back wall.
