Location:  130 Skyline Dr, Ringwood, NJ Photographed:  November 8, 2024 Of the 32 Stop & Shop stores that closed this fall, several already have new tenants. Four of them are now Food Bazaars, and one is slated to become an Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace. But a sixth location is already reopened, this one under the banner The Fresh Grocer owned by Inserra Supermarkets! The 29,000 square foot store was constructed in 1972 as a Grand Union, later becoming a Stop & Shop in 2001 (tour the Stop & Shop here ). Ringwood is a bit remote, so losing the only supermarket in town was a pretty big deal. And that's why it was good news that Inserra Supermarkets, which owns around 30 ShopRites and Price Rites in NJ and NY, moved in. Stop & Shop closed on October 10, and after about a month...

Stop & Shop Opened:  2001 Previous Tenants:  Grand Union (1972-2001) Location:  130 Skyline Drive, Ringwood, NJ Photographed:  July 2020 Heading across the street from yesterday's former A&P to today's former Grand Union! Built in 1972, the store is 29,000 square feet and to this day retains its Grand Union essence. Even down to the exterior! It's almost identical to the Ballston Spa, NY Grand Union location, which you can see here  (now an Ocean State Job Lot). You can enter at either end of the front, with produce, natural foods, and deli in the grand aisle to the left. Meats run along the back wall with bakery in the front right corner. The Grand Union wood paneling remains on the wall! The Grand Union decor has been retrofitted with simple, 2-D versions of the newer Stop & Shop decor probably installed around 2016-18. Original Tenant:  A&P Address:  115 Skyline Dr, Ringwood, NJ Opened:  1960s Closed:  unknown Later Tenants:  CVS Photographed:  July 2020 Today's snapshot is a quick look at a former A&P, now of course occupied by a CVS. The 16,000 square foot space does not seem to have been significantly altered since its days as an A&P, although some facade details have been removed and a new facade has been built out over the old building. A&P was based out of Montvale just about 12 miles away, but Grand Union out of Elmwood Park, NJ 13 miles away set up shop across the street in a larger location in 1972.
