The Market Report

Now we're going to check out a few independent grocers in Roxbury, starting with one at the northern end of the neighborhood just a couple blocks from Tropical Foods ! Roxbury Daily Table Grocery Open:  2018-2025 Owner:  nonprofit Previous Tenants:  non-grocery tenants Cooperative:  none Location:  2201 Washington St, Roxbury, MA Photographed:  June 2, 2019 We've seen Daily Table locations in Dorchester and Mattapan , but after opening their Dorchester location in 2016, they opened up here in Roxbury in a small storefront in 2018. The store looks similar inside but is a bit smaller, clocking in at just under 3000 square feet. It closed with the rest of the Daily Table locations in May. Just south of here is a new independent grocer that I haven't gotten to visit yet called Nubian Markets , a small specialty supermarket and cafe that specializes in African foods .

Now that we've toured all of the larger stores of Dorchester -- and taken a look at some former supermarkets , too -- it's time to check out some of the small independent stores around the neighborhood! A big caveat here: this is nowhere near a look at every independent grocery store and corner store in Dorchester, but it should give us a good overview. It opened around 2013, and previously, the Viet-Huong Market occupied part of the space (as you can see above, the store is two storefronts combined, and they've since been painted the same color).   Hi everyone! I have decided, after a few years, that I am going to condense all of my posts back down to one blog -- just The Market Report. That's not to say we won't still be seeing grocery history and independent supermarkets! It's just that it'll no longer be on separate blogs. When I started the other two blogs a few years ago, I thought it would be a good way to keep things organized and keep similar posts and stores together, but I think it's ultimately more work than it's worth, both for me and for all of you who are reading the blogs. But the great news is that I'm in the process of consolidating all the posts I've already made on the other two blogs into The Market Report, so they should all show up in this feed! That way, you can just check at marketreportblog.com for all the posts. If Blogger works right, that should even include all of the comments from the old posts transferring over to this blog, and the posts appearing on the right dat...

Yes, there is new stuff! The first thing being, as you're probably aware of, a complete redesign of The Market Report's website. I'm always looking to make the blog more user-friendly, so any and all feedback is welcomed. I've probably missed some details, so let me know what I still need to change if you come across any. Also...make sure to check out my other two blogs! The Market Report family of websites now includes two brand-new blogs, The Independent Edition and Grocery Archaeology. And that's about it for now. Going from the Finger Lakes directly into our new set of stores, which is just too many to call it a group. The next approximately three months will be spent seeing 89 supermarkets and grocery stores across all five boroughs. The photos have been collected over the course of about two years (summer 2016-summer 2018) but most come from a single day in July 2018. ALSO ...we're going to be mixing things up from here on out. The Market Report will continue to do what it's always done, but there are two changes. Former supermarkets  will now be featured on Grocery Archaeology, available at ga.marketreportblog.com .
