Food Bazaar Supermarket - Brooklyn, NY (Starrett City)

Food Bazaar Supermarket Opened: 2018 Owner: Spencer An Previous Tenants: Pathmark (1981-2015) Cooperative: none Location: 111-10 Flatlands Ave, Brooklyn, NY Photographed: April 24, 2026 Before we begin, just a heads up: this was originally posted in April 2020, but was rewritten with new photos in July 2026. Now for the post! We've seen this store before! Kind of . I've returned for a full store tour, and it was worth it! This 50,000 square foot former Pathmark opened in late 2018 after extensive renovations -- extensive enough that I don't really know how the Pathmark was set up. Limited pictures online show that it was a pretty standard, old-school looking Pathmark. There was a significant delay in this store's opening compared to the other acquired locations because of a legal dispute here. (Another bidder was a broker representing independent grocer Francisco Jin, who wanted both this store and the North Bergen location. Though that one was quickly sorted ...

TOUR: ShopRite - East New York, Brooklyn, NY

Welcome to Brooklyn, and also to the largest supermarket in New York City! This 93,000 square foot behemoth is also the second largest ShopRite, behind only Kinsley's ShopRite of Brodheadsville, PA, which has been photographed and will be coming to the blog someday. It's owned by New Jersey-based Glass Gardens, which also owns ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York state, along with a much smaller location in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. This location, quite simply, is enormous. You enter to a produce department that's probably bigger than many supermarkets in Brooklyn, with deli and prepared foods running along the right side wall of the store. There's also a Dunkin' Donuts and a cafe area in the front corner. This decor has certain similarities to the A&P Fresh 2.0 decor, although there are notable differences, such as the fact that the wall and not the decor elements are curved. The color scheme, pictures, and lighting are quite similar,...

TOUR: Key Food Supermarkets - Howard Beach, NY

The Almontes own two supermarkets in Howard Beach, a former Waldbaum's that's now a Food Emporium in the northern part of the neighborhood, and a Key Food that was previously a Duane Reade in the southern part of the neighborhood. At about 10,000 square feet, this is the far smaller location, and it's also slightly older, having opened in 2014. The store is oriented to face the parking lot in the back. Deli/bakery line the inside of this back wall, with produce on the facing aisle and checkouts along the left side wall. Meat lines the right side wall, with dairy and frozen in the last aisle, which is the front wall of the store (nearest to Crossbay Blvd). As we'll see, they've had to work with a rather awkward space, leading to some strange corners and wonky ceiling heights. Like many urban stores, this Key Food takes advantage of the outdoor space they have facing the parking lot. In this case, it's enclosed and heated -- good news for the bitte...
