ALDI and LIDL have each recently opened new stores, joining a number of existing stores including a Trader Joe's opened in 2017 and several independents. Now, Inserra Supermarkets -- which runs ShopRite , Price Rite , and The Fresh Grocer stores in northeastern New Jersey and Rockland County, New York -- has joined the fray, opening an 18,000 square foot Fresh Grocer in a basement just diagonally across the street from the LIDL. Although the LIDL is a no-frills discount store, it's actually quite a bit larger than this store at 30,000 square feet. ALDI Opened:  November 6, 2025 Owner:  ALDI Sud Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  none Location:  625 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY Photographed: November 12, 2025 ALDI has opened its latest New York City store, here on the border of Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene (Google tells me that this store is just barely in a western corner of Fort Greene). This store is located in a new-construction development, so you can see retail spaces to either side of the ALDI are not yet filled and are still under construction. When you enter through that front door, you walk down a hallway to get into the supermarket, which is set back from the road a bit. The store is around 15,000 square feet, making it roughly typical in size for an ALDI. It's quite a bit smaller than the new LIDL just about four blocks west, though. The discount chain continues to grow, albeit much more slowly than originally forecast, and here in downtown Brooklyn the latest location opened up in late May. At 30,000 square feet, it's not huge, but it's fairly large for an urban Brooklyn store. It follows a store that opened at the Gateway Center in January . The store is set up in a highly unusual way. The majority of the supermarket is on the second floor -- in a space previously occupied by a Raymour & Flanigan furniture store -- but a small space on the first floor, which has its own entrance, is home to the bakery and floral departments.
