Tendercrop Farm - Newbury, MA

Tendercrop Farm Opened: 1995 Owner:  Matthew Kozazcki Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  none Location:  108 High Rd, Newbury, MA Photographed:  July 7, 2023 A quick look today at another Tendercrop Farm, whose Wenham location we recently took a look inside. The Newbury location is the original Tendercrop, opening in 1995. Like Wenham, this is part greengrocer, part farmstand, part butcher, part greenhouse/garden center, and part working farm. Unfortunately, I don't have any interior pictures of this store, but you can see inside the produce barn here . (I was only driving by, unfortunately, and it was after the store had closed for the day when I took the above picture.) We're a couple miles outside Newburyport here, which is the larger town in this area on the Merrimack River. That's where tomorrow's store will be, so come back to check it out!

Tendercrop Farm - Wenham, MA

Tendercrop Farm Opened: 2015 Owner:  Matthew Kozazcki Previous Tenants:  Canaan Farm Cooperative:  none Location:  93 Main St, Wenham, MA Photographed:  May 14, 2022 Ever heard of Wenham, MA? I'm sure most haven't -- it's a town of less than 5000 people over eight square miles, a bit over 20 miles northeast of Boston. I certainly wouldn't know about the town, save for a friend who grew up here. The town is home to Gordon College, a small school, and a small museum. It's also home to the Wenham Tea House , the only restaurant in town. This is where the suburbs start to give way to farmland and forests, and there are a number of nature preserves and other protected land around here. Tendercrop Farm , which opened here in 2015 (it was previously a different farm), has opened a farm market and food store in a building on the farm property, which as you can see is scenic and quaint. The main event is the produce, much of which is grown on-site (or at other farms own...

Lambert's Rainbow Market - Dorchester, MA

Lambert's Rainbow Market Opened: ca. late 1960s Owner:  Danny Lambert Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  none Location:  777 Morrissey Blvd, Dorchester, MA Photographed:  July 27, 2019 Just around the corner from the Stop & Shop we saw yesterday is this longtime produce market and supermarket, the 10,000 square foot Lambert's Rainbow Market. The store has a garden center out front, which you can see below, and then inside about half of the store is produce and service departments, with grocery aisles behind that. Lambert's dates back to the late 1960s, when this produce market opened. The Westwood location, around 10 miles southwest, came later. You can tour the Westwood location here . You can enter the supermarket through the greenhouse, which has plants and flowers for sale. The aisles inside run side to side, with the registers at the front. The bakery department is also in the front, with deli at the right side of the store and meat/seafood at the ...

TOUR: Idylwilde Farms - Acton, MA

Idylwilde Farms Opened: 1985 in present location Owner:  Tom, David, and Richard Napoli Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  none Location:  366 Central St, Acton, MA Photographed:  May 13, 2023 I can already hear you grumbling. Not another farm market ! But trust me, you're going to want to tour Idylwilde Farms. The 17,000 square foot store is indeed a farm market, but it's also an extensive gourmet supermarket that more than warrants a visit. (Remember Bolton Orchards ? It's a similar setup, with a lot of produce and specialty items, although Idylwilde is both larger and more upscale.) Although the farm and original door-to-door produce business originates as far back as 1898 , today's grocery store was only built in 1985. We're in the western part of Acton here, where the area starts to feel less like Boston suburbs and more like, well, farmland. Incidentally, we've seen stores in the northeastern part of Acton , and now we're in the northwestern area. ...

Look Inside: Wilkins Farm Stand - Pepperell, MA

Wilkins Farm Stand Opened: 1984 Owner:  Greg Wilkins Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  none Location:  20 South Rd, Pepperell, MA Photographed:  October 8, 2023 Yesterday we saw the Pepperell Quality Market , the small supermarket in the middle of Pepperell. Now we're about two and a half miles south of there, to see a small farmstand near the border of Groton. The 7000 square foot store isn't a supermarket for sure, but there's a lot of produce (locally grown and mainstream), along with some gourmet foods and specialty items, plus flowers, in the 7200 square foot roadside store. The store, like many produce stands, has a rustic feel and lots of produce from northeastern Massachusetts, some from very close by. But there's also a selection of regular produce, things not grown in the area, like citrus and so on. Tomorrow we're off to another small supermarket about five miles south!
