This building goes back to the 1950s when it was built as a Finast, which closed around the early 80s. Local chain Flanagan's moved in, occupying the space until the late 1990s. In 1997, a location of America's Food Basket moved in. The supermarket was originally about 17,000 square feet, and appears to have eventually been expanded to its present 20,000 square feet or so. It's also possible that one of the past supermarkets here was larger than AFB is, and the space next door currently occupied by CVS would've been part of the supermarket, too (that would bring the total to around 33,000 square feet). Inside, you can tell it's an old-school supermarket building...

Stop & Shop Opened: 2011 replacing older store Owner:  Ahold Delhaize Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  none Location:  1025 Truman Pkwy, Hyde Park, MA Photographed:  July 28, 2019 This store might look like an average Stop & Shop, but it has a fascinating history. Stop & Shop first arrived on this property in the mid- to late-1950s with a smaller store closer to the street a little farther south, at 1065 Truman Parkway. That store would then be demolished and rebuilt in the late 1970s, in what I believe was a combination Stop & Shop supermarket with a Stop & Shop-owned Medi-Mart drugstore next door. By around 2010, after the Medi-Mart had long since become a Walgreens, that building was demolished once again. A new ground-up Stop & Shop and Walgreens were built, opening the following year or so, and actually occupying an ever so slightly different footprint from the previous building. Shaw's Opened: unknown Owner:  Albertsons Companies Previous Tenants:  industrial > Star Market (opened ca. 1990s) Cooperative:  none Location:  1377 Hyde Park Ave, Hyde Park, MA Photographed:  July 28, 2019 Welcome to just one of two Shaw's within Boston city limits! Although the chain has a large presence in the suburbs, the majority of the Albertsons-owned supermarkets in Boston use the Star Market banner . And actually, this one did too -- when it opened in the 1990s in a former industrial building, it was a Star Market (or, at the very least, it was intended to be). In fact, you can tell that because of the exterior similarities to ACMEs of the 1990s . At the time, ACME's owner American Stores also owned Star Market. The roughly 52,000 square foot store is located right on Hyde Park Avenue, which is the main thoroughfare through Hyde Park.
