LIDL Opened: May 9, 2025 Owner:  The Schwarz Group Previous Tenants:  assorted non-grocery tenants Cooperative:  none Location:  91 Trotters Way, Freehold, NJ Photographed:  May 9, 2025 Welcome to the newest LIDL! This roughly 36,000 square foot store opened yesterday in an outparcel of the Freehold Raceway Mall in central Jersey, replacing a closed Bob's Stores . LIDL seems to be treating this store as roughly a replacement for the Howell location, which was located in a former Best Buy at 4250 US-9 in Howell about eight miles south. That store closed in the summer of 2023 , nearly two years ago. This LIDL appears to be just slightly larger than the closed Howell location. It's a jump headfirst into an area with a lot  of competition. Within three miles, there's a Wegmans in Manalapan, a Trader Joe's in Freehold, a produce market and an ALDI right across the highway with a ShopRite next door to that, an ACME to the south , a Walmart Supercenter and Sam's ...

Livoti's Old World Market Owner: John Livoti Opened:  2021 Cooperative:  Associated Supermarket Group Location:  200 Mounts Corner Dr, Freehold, NJ Photographed:  August 21, 2022 Yesterday we documented some of the changes and, shall we say, room for improvement at Kings Food Markets . Today I want to show you the latest location of a very successful gourmet supermarket chain, Livoti's Old World Market of Monmouth County, NJ. We have previously seen their Aberdeen , Englishtown , and Middletown locations, and in spring 2021, the chain opened a new location in Freehold.  This store is in a former Top Tomato Superstore, which had a brief stint in New Jersey and has since shrunk significantly (including abruptly closing all of their New Jersey stores). Before it was Top Tomato, it was a very short-lived ACME. The supermarket is practically next door to a Stop & Shop in a former Norkus Foodtown, too. ACME Markets Opened: early 2000s Previous Tenants:  none Location:  3241 US-9, Freehold, NJ Photographed:  December 2020 We are here for our first store in Freehold! When we passed through Farmingdale yesterday, I mentioned it's about five miles from the nearest big-chain stores, one of which is this 49,000 square foot ACME. Built in the early 2000s, this was one of two ACMEs at the time in Freehold, the other of which lasted just over a year. This one seems to do a very brisk business and was quite busy at the time of my visit. Acme Style has covered the other Freehold store here and this location here . That other Freehold location briefly became a Top Tomato Superstore (see Asbury Park Press coverage here , but unfortunately it's behind a paywall), and is now being prepared for a Livoti's, whose Aberdeen and Middletown locations we saw and whose Englishtown location is coming soon to the blog.
