Original Grocery Tenant: Olive Tree Marketplace Address: 3130 NJ-10, Denville, NJ Opened:  2016 Closed:  2018 Later Tenants:  Corrado's Market (2019-spring 2023) Photographed:  June 4, 2023 Olive Tree Marketplace didn't quite last two years in this space in Denville, NJ on route 10, and while Corrado's made it a bit longer they were still out of business in about four years. The space reopened as a Corrado's in 2019, and while they improved the store greatly from Olive Tree, that wasn't enough to save the business. The closure of this store and North Arlington were very quiet, and no official announcement was made. It seems to be both abrupt and in line with a larger rethink (driven, it seems, by financial struggles) across the Corrado's business which I summarize in yesterday's North Arlington post. ACME Markets Opened: 2015 Previous Tenants:  A&P (ca. 2003-2015) Location:  123 Main St, Denville, NJ Photographed:  July 2020 It's time for our final Parsippany/Great Piece Meadows store! We're just south of downtown Denville for a look at the ACME here in town, which is historically notable because it was the first A&P fresh market opening around 2003. It's also almost exactly 50,000 square feet, and replaced a centennial model store on the same property. Acme Style has documented this store very well, both as an A&P and as an ACME, but there have been a few changes since their last post about the store. For one, the main facade has been repainted and while it looks a lot sharper I'm not convinced that's the right color. I think it might be the weird pinkish cinderblock that's throwing me off too, A&P liked that color. It's still a pretty good looking store exterior. Back in May, I got an email from the same person who sent in photos of the Aquí Market in Califon, NJ asking if I would be interested in photos of the Foodtown in Denville. Of course! So all the photos in this post are courtesy of Gerry K. This is a store I'd been to, but before I started taking pictures. Foodtown , or Dickerson's Market, has been in Denville since 1893, operating first a small general store before building the existing supermarket in the 1950s. Although the store has been renovated slightly over the years, it's still an amazing step back in time -- but not, by any means, outdated. That makes perfect sense, right? Either way, this is still a great store and worth a stop if you're in the area. The most recent change has been painting the facade of the strip. It used to be blue/turquoise and was not, um, particularly attractive. The new paint job makes the building look pretty good, and blend in with the suburban-bordering-on-rural area. I ...
