Here at the Super Supermarket, just outside downtown, the interior has gotten some small updates and renovation since my last post, when it had gotten a new floor . Small, independent stores like this tend to get incremental updates rather than a floor-to-ceiling renovation all at once. This store is on the smaller side, at around 22,000 square feet, but it's not that small (and is actually the largest supermarket in Orange, which is a small city of around 35,000 people). It's well-appointed for its size, though, with produce on the left side, packaged meats in the back-left corner, and service butcher, seafood, and deli counters on the back wall. Food Bazaar Supermarket Opened: October 4, 2024 Owner:  Spencer An Previous Tenants:  Grand Union (closed 2001) > Stop & Shop (2001-2024) Cooperative:  none Location:  675 Paterson Ave, Carlstadt, NJ Photographed:  December 15, 2024 Time for another update at two of the Food Bazaar stores acquired from Stop & Shop this past fall! The Carlstadt store's renovation is moving right along, while Pisctataway's hasn't really started yet. As we have previously seen, Carlstadt's exterior has been painted, but the interior work is progressing too. (See here for my most recent post on Carlstadt and Piscataway, about a month ago.) Inside, Carlstadt is starting to look much more like a Food Bazaar than a Stop & Shop, though the majority of the fixtures and layout remain. Stop & Shop Opened: 2001 Owner:  Ahold Delhaize Previous Tenants:  Mayfair Foodtown (ca. 1990-1995) > Edwards (1995-2001) Cooperative:  none Location:  2275 W County Line Rd, Jackson, NJ Photographed:  April 19, 2024 Closing Date: September 19, 2024 (approximate) Today's next already-closed Stop & Shop (joining Newton and Carlstadt ) is Jackson, which closed on or around September 19. This store was one of the 32 closures announced in July , but its closure was actually announced in April on its own. The roughly 68,000 square foot store was constructed around 1990 as a Mayfair Foodtown, then became an Edwards, which converted to Stop & Shop in 2001. It seems that the store was renovated and expanded almost immediately after that. It wasn't redone subsequently, so right up until its closure it sported its early-00s Super Stop & Shop decor.
