That's because it actually dates back to 1899, though it was taken over by the current owner in 2000. You can read a lot more about the history of the store on its own website here . At only around 2700 square feet, this is definitely closer to a general store than a full supermarket, but there's a surprising range of groceries available inside -- and locals' favorite Italian subs. Vista Foods Opened:  unknown Owner: Associated Grocers of New England Previous Tenants: unknown; possibly Shaw's Cooperative:  Associated Grocers of New England Location: 376 S Main St, Laconia, NH Photographed: August 16, 2025 This roughly 23,000 square foot supermarket is today under the Vista Foods brand, owned by Associated Grocers of New England, but I suspect it may have previously been a Shaw's. There was a Shaw's here in Laconia at one time, but I haven't been able to track down the address (and there no longer is one in town, with the nearest one now being to the north in Gilford). The exterior was remodeled around 2010, and I don't recognize the previous facade clearly enough as a definitive former Shaw's look that I can say that for sure. Any info? Heritage Corner Market Opened: ca. 2015 Owner:  unknown Previous Tenants:  Northwood Country Market (closed ca. 2015) Cooperative:  Associated Grocers of New England Location:  1380 1st New Hampshire Tpk, Northwood, NH Photographed:  January 8, 2025 Just down the street from the Hannaford in Northwood is the Heritage Corner Market, which sits somewhere between being a full supermarket and a convenience store. It's definitely set up like a convenience store, but features a deli, a butcher, and a produce department along with grocery staples and the grab-and-go items you'd expect in a convenience store. It bears more resemblance to the general stores we saw recently in Maine, for instance, than either a typical c-store or a full supermarket. This store is around 7,000 square feet and attached to the Heritage True Value hardware store. Pleau's Market Opened:  unknown Owner:  Rob Pleau Previous Tenants:  unknown Cooperative:  Associated Grocers of New England Location:  10 China Rd, Winslow, ME Photographed:  August 12, 2019 Happy June! Winslow is a suburb of Waterville, ME, and here we're just across the Kennebec River from downtown Waterville. While I haven't been able to find a specific opening date for this little store of about 14,000 square feet, I think it's safe to say it's been here a long time (or at least, it's been a supermarket of some kind for a very long time). The store looks small but well-kept inside , though I didn't get the chance to go in. It's a member of Associated Grocers of New England. Tomorrow, we're headed across the river to Waterville!

Wentworth Family Grocery Opened:  2009 Owner:  JP & Rhonda Wentworth Previous Tenants:  unknown Cooperative:  Associated Grocers of New England Location:  655 Atlantic Hwy, Northport, ME Photographed:  June 16, 2022 Wentworth Family Grocery is a small chain of three grocery stores in this area of Maine, and the Northport store is a relatively new store having been constructed from the ground up in 2009. It's around 10,000 square feet, or slightly larger than the independent grocers I've been posting in the last couple days. And as we wind our way through this part of Maine, we'll see one other Wentworth location, so more on that soon. Tomorrow, we'll be headed up to the larger town of Belfast!

French & Brawn Marketplace Opened: 1868 Owner:  Todd Anderson Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  Associated Grocers of New England Location:  1 Elm St, Camden, ME Photographed:  August 11, 2019 Welcome to quaint downtown Camden! This small waterfront city has a Hannaford just outside of town , but right in town is the French & Brawn Marketplace. This grocer actually dates all the way back to 1868, and the store is only about 2500 square feet at the main intersection of the town. You can tell from the wonderful exterior that this store has been here for many decades! Actually, more than a century. The store faces Elm Street, the main street in town, with a side entrance in the back to the deli and butcher area. Heading in, we can tell the store is very old-school but wonderfully preserved and a really nice, small town supermarket.
