Extra Jumbo Marketplace Opened: July 2025 Owner:  unknown Previous Tenants:  Top Tomato > Family Dollar Cooperative:  Associated Supermarket Group Location:  3560 Jerome Ave, Norwood, Bronx, NY Photographed:  August 6, 2025 We've seen several recent openings from Antillana SuperFood and their affiliates, and now it's time for another one! This 8500 square foot store was most recently a Family Dollar, but unsurprisingly, it was a supermarket before that. It was a Top Tomato (whose nearby Yonkers location is closing), opening by 1987 and closing after 1993, though I don't have any more information on the building's history than that. We're way up in the far northern part of the Bronx here, and just up the street from the new Key Food in Norwood . That store is a new but unremarkable replacement for a much older store next door. This one, though, is all brand-new. Some shots from the subway, which is elevated above Jerome Avenue here... Now let's head inside!...

Key Food Supermarkets Opened: March 2025 Owner:  Jaime Luna Previous Tenants:  assorted non-grocery tenants Cooperative:  Key Food Stores Location:  3509 Jerome Ave, Norwood, Bronx, NY Photographed:  August 6, 2025 Time to return to Norwood, where a Key Food recently moved next door . I visited the store last during its soft opening phase, and now, it's pretty much complete. As you can see above, signage has been installed on the outside, and the beer cooler has been stocked inside. It doesn't look like this store will be getting any decor or department signage inside, which is a shame. It's pleasant but extremely bland inside. But the aisle markers have been replaced in most of the aisles, removing the old ones brought over from the previous store and replacing them with these new, much sleeker ones. As a commenter mentioned on the previous post, the store this one replaced was a Bonavita Pioneer supermarket, then the Bonavita operation joined Key Food and it ...

Key Food Supermarkets Opened: March 2025 Owner:  unknown Previous Tenants:  Pioneer Supermarkets Cooperative:  Key Food Stores Location:  3509 Jerome Ave, Norwood, Bronx, NY Photographed:  April 7, 2025 Welcome to the new Key Food in Norwood, in the Bronx -- so new that it doesn't even have a sign up yet. Or at least it didn't when I visited last week. It appears to have opened right at the end of March or early April, replacing an older store next door. I visited that store long ago, and you can see my original post here . The Key Food has moved just next door from its previous location, and you can actually see the red and yellow former Key Food awning to the right in the above picture. The new store is still in its soft opening phase, and it's mostly fully built. It's undoubtedly still in progress, though. What confuses me is that the new store is almost identical to the old store. Moving towards our last store tour tomorrow, which is exciting! The neighborhood changes abruptly as you head west on Gun Hill Rd from Norwood into Van Cortlandt Village, where we will see our last store at the southern tip of Van Cortlandt Park. Norwood, a densely packed and busy neighborhood, gives way to Van Cortlandt Village's winding tree-lined streets with more houses. This picture is looking east on Gun Hill Rd between Jerome Ave and Mosholu Pkwy.

Today's Snapshot is a quick look at a store that seems to be a produce/greengrocer shop with some groceries and, apparently, dairy products. Unfortunately, it seems that this store has gone out of business since my pass through the neighborhood. I always hate to see any store go out of business, unless it's really absolutely horrible. That "Fruits & Vegetables" panel looks like it could just as easily be from 2005 as 1965. I love it! Tropical Dairy Corp is (was) at 3494 Jerome Ave, Bronx, NY. Photographed June 2018

Time flies when you're having fun, so it's hard to believe we're already on the second-to-last store tour of the Bronx group! This Key Food was previously a Pioneer Supermarket, but has been a Key Food for at least about 20 years. This store is owned by the Luna brothers, who also own many other grocery stores in the area under many, many banners. One such store is the SuperFresh of Glen Rock . This store is not in as good condition as the SuperFresh in Glen Rock. It looks particularly bad on the outside, although as we'll see, it gets better inside. Definitely old-style lettering here on this sign, starting to show its age. You enter on the right side of the store. The deli is immediately inside on the right, with produce lining the first aisle and meats on the back wall. Frozen and dairy are in the last aisle. Hot food counter definitely closed for the day. But still a pretty nice-sized deli in a very small store. You see what I mean, it does...
