The Butcherie has been here since 1962. The original grocery store here appears to have been a Sunny Rose Foods , in business by 1946, then Sunnyside Foods by around 1955. There was also a funeral home at this address, but it looks like it coexisted with the supermarket rather than coming before or after it. And while I have no idea, this building seems to bear some similarities to early car dealerships such as the type you can see in a few other Massachusetts cities . The store clocks in at around 6000 square feet, but it's definitely a full supermarket and not just a corner store -- or, as the name might imply, just a butcher shop. There's also wine and beer. Bingo Wholesale Opened: 2020 Previous Tenants:  assorted non-grocery tenants Location:  44 Spring Valley Marketplace, Spring Valley, NY Photographed:  August 18, 2023 Welcome to Bingo Wholesale! The chain of stores is owned by a grocery operator from Israel and has been described as " the kosher Costco ." That's a pretty spot-on description! This Spring Valley store joins two other U.S. locations, in Brooklyn and Lakewood, NJ. Each community has a large Orthodox Jewish population, who make up nearly the entire customer base at this store. The roughly 50,000 square foot supermarket is one of the larger kosher stores in the immediate area, but it's far from the only one. There's probably a dozen within a ten-minute drive or so of this location. We'll be checking out one other -- I wish I had visited more, but that will have to be for future trips. Seasons Supermarkets, a troubled Brooklyn-based Kosher supermarket chain emerged from bankruptcy  under a new owner in early 2019, and part of the turnaround effort was a new 12,000 square foot location in Scarsdale, NY, replacing a former Gristedes. Located in the back corner of a strip mall that's already hard to see from the road, this store's location may prove to be a tough challenge to overcome as the store was deserted at the time of my visit. It does seem to be the only Kosher supermarket in the area, though it's also a traffic light away from a Balducci's that we'll be touring tomorrow. I think it's pretty fair to assume there's nothing left from Gristedes inside. You enter and turn right along the front wall to enter the produce department in the front right corner, with bakery continuing along the rest of the right side wall. Now for the post! Welcome to Aron's Kissena Farms, a kosher supermarket in the Pomonok section of Fresh Meadows, and when I say it's next door to the nearby Key Food , I mean literally the two parking lots share a side. Key Food has virtually no kosher offerings, though, so there's room for both. This store, although it's an old building, is a bit newer inside and somewhat spiffier than the raggedy-but-packed-full Key Food. With its various expansions over the years, this store clocks in at around 20,000 square feet, or around 10,000 square feet smaller than the Key Food.
