Hannaford
Opened: early 00sOver the past few years, I've come to really love Hannaford. By and large, their stores are in great shape, well-run, and well-priced. This Nashua location is no exception. It's a pretty new store to begin with, having been constructed as a Shop 'n Save around the mid-90s. It became a Hannaford in the early 2000s, and has been renovated at least once since then. At around 65,000 square feet, this store feels plenty large but not too big, like some of the supermarkets in this area.
This isn't a flagship store quite as much as some (that's about 15 miles north of here), but there's a lot here. We begin with an Aroma Joe's coffee shop and cafe right inside the entrance, not a typical Hannaford feature, and then move to a larger-than-usual prepared foods area right across from the entrance. Produce is in the front-right corner, with deli and bakery in the island behind prepared foods. Cheese and wine are in the back-right corner, with meat and seafood on the back wall. Frozen and dairy are on the left side, along with the pharmacy.
This is Hannaford's only store in town, but all indications suggest it's a high-volume store despite the three Market Baskets, two Shaw's, and two Whole Foods within the city limits. This store still looks entirely brand-new, though the renovation was actually about two years ago in the summer of 2024.
Hannaford has a significant presence near Manchester, but much less in the southern part of the state. There's another store just outside Nashua that we'll see very soon.
Walk-in dairy storage is out on the sales floor here, meaning the dairy cases are around the dairy box instead of being on a perimeter wall. Frozen surrounds that. An unusual setup, but one that some other Hannafords use.

From here, The Market Report heads to the neighborhoods just north of downtown to see a very long-standing independent grocer!
