TOUR: Sprouts Farmers Market - Marlton, NJ

Sprouts Farmers Market Opened:  2019 Previous Tenants:  part of Burlington Location:  227 NJ-73, Marlton, NJ Photographed:  January 2021 Picture this: it's 3:30 on a Friday afternoon. You want to be home for dinner at 5:30, and you live two hours away, but you drive by a really cool supermarket. Naturally, you go, right? Well, I did, anyway. I remembered Sprouts from an approximately 2013 visit to the Colorado Boulevard location out in Denver (at the time my grandmother lived a few blocks away) which does not appear to be all that exciting from the outside but inside we can tell that it was built as a Marina Safeway since the arched ceiling is still exposed. Obviously, I regret not taking pictures, but even 2013 Zachary understood that there was something special there. Anyhow, I promptly forgot about Sprouts Farmers Markets for roughly 10 years until I was driving through Marlton and found that this store had opened up. It was constructed in part of the Burlington...

TOUR: H Mart - Cherry Hill, NJ

H Mart President: Stacey Kwan Opened: ca. 1990s Previous Tenants:  unknown Location:  1720 NJ-70, Cherry Hill, NJ Photographed:  January 2021 Welcome to the H Mart of Cherry Hill, one of a dying breed of H Marts. We've seen quite a few of their locations, many of which are shiny and new and even some of the older ones are large and quite beautiful. Cherry Hill has to have been one of the earliest locations in New Jersey (probably around the same time as Ridgefield , which has been renovated, and Little Ferry, which was replaced with a new store just about a year ago). Cherry Hill, on the other hand, is about 24,000 square feet (so not tiny, but not that large either). But it's in the basement of this small strip mall, facing away from the street. Here's the view from route 70 and here's how the building is set up. Not exactly an ideal location or layout, and I can't believe the store has lasted as long as it has in this location. And to be completely honest, I ...

1409 Marlton Pk E, Cherry Hill, NJ

Original Tenant: A&P Address:  Barclay Farms Shopping Center, 1409 Marlton Pk E, Cherry Hill, NJ Opened:  1960 Closed:  1979 Later Tenants:  Plus Discount Foods / Lew's Clover Butcher Shop (1979-1982) > Kingsway Hardware > Drug Emporium > Asian Food Markets (2005-2018) Photographed:  January 2021 The Barclay Farms Shopping Center opened with an A&P in 1960 in the Barclay section of Cherry Hill Township. The A&P was open until June 1979, when it closed and was subdivided with an A&P-owned Plus Discount Foods taking most of the space and Lew's Clover Butcher Shop taking the rest of the 19,000 square foot space. It was all later converted to a hardware store, then Drug Emporium, and then back to a supermarket when Asian Food Markets  took over the space in 2005. They lost their lease in 2018, and it seems they weren't interested in leaving but were forced out. Planet Fitness has opened up in the space as of 2021, which I caught right...

TOUR: MOM's Organic Market - Cherry Hill, NJ

MOM's Organic Market Opened: 2016 Owner:  Scott Nash Previous Tenants:  ACME Markets > subdivided Location:  1631 Kings Hwy N, Cherry Hill, NJ Photographed:  January 2021 It's not too often that I get to introduce you all to a new chain that we haven't seen before on the blog! This time, that chain is MOM's Organic Market, and I visited their first New Jersey location, here in Cherry Hill, back in January 2021. The Maryland-based chain was originally called My Organic Market, which was shortened to MOM, and most recently re-branded as the rather redundant MOM MOM's Organic Market, at least if we are to take the sign at face value. A good friend, who's a Baltimore native, explained the history to me and says that people simply call it MOM's. More recently, the chain has opened up in Dobbs Ferry, NY and most recently in Paramus . This building actually started life as an ACME back in 1957 and was a series of non-grocery tenants up through 2016, when MOM...
