I'm going to try to catch up on news posts I still need to do during this break, so stay tuned. We return to the Shrewsbury Patel Brothers for a quick update! The store has undergone an expansion and a small renovation, bringing it from around 14,000 square feet to a bit over 20,000. That's in advance of the massive former Stop & Shop across the street becoming a super-sized Apna Bazar , which I'm sure is on Patel Brothers' mind. One other minor change: they've dropped the "Farmers Market" from the name here, and that appears to be because Patel Brothers uses the Farmers Market brand for smaller locations. Patel Brothers Farmers Market Opened: ca. 2012 Owner:  Mafat & Tulsi Patel Previous Tenants:  non-grocery tenants Cooperative:  none/Krasdale-supplied Location:  504 Boston Tpk, Shrewsbury, MA Photographed:  October 23, 2021 Shrewsbury and some of the other suburbs between Worcester and Boston have growing Indian populations, so it's no surprise that Indian grocers have opened up to serve that community. Here in Shrewsbury, Patel Brothers is the smaller of two Indian supermarkets, clocking in at around 14,000 square feet. The store opened around 2012, combining a few formerly separate storefronts (or so it looks to me). Inside, the interior is very typical of a Patel Brothers, with the produce department on the left side of the store taking up the first two and a half aisles. Five grocery aisles are on the right side of the store, with dairy in the second-to-last aisle and frozen in the last one. What I would consider to be the last aisle is here labeled ai...

Patel Brothers Owner: Swetal & Rakesh Patel Opened:  2021 Previous Tenants:  A&P (1970s-1982) > SuperFresh (1982-1999) > AC Moore Cooperative:  none Location:  1907 Street Rd, Bensalem, PA Photographed:  December 28, 2021 Today's post is a quick look at the Patel Brothers in Bensalem, which has been located in this strip mall for quite some time. In 2021, the store moved from a small corner location to this spot in a former AC Moore, which was itself built as an A&P and was converted to SuperFresh. The move looks to have expanded Patel Brothers from a 12,000 square foot corner space in the mall to a roughly 30,000 square foot anchor tenant position, so that was likely a big move up for them. We don't have too much coverage here in Bensalem, but we do have one more store across the street before we move on. Check it out on Monday at Grocery Archaeology !

Patel Brothers Owner: Swetal & Rakesh Patel Opened:  2017 Previous Tenants:  Genuardi's Cooperative:  none Location:  72 Princeton Hightstown Rd, East Windsor, NJ Photographed:  February 2021 Recognize that exterior? You very well may, because this Patel Brothers is in roughly half of a former Genuardi's supermarket. The 52,000 square foot building has been split almost exactly in half for a Patel Brothers on the right side and a Kohl's on the left side. Patel Brothers' entrance is in the glass tower, and while the exterior has barely been changed, the interior looks very different (but much like the past Patel Brothers we've toured). Patel's Fresh Kitchen is up first on the front wall, immediately inside the entrance. Produce lines the right side of the store, with dairy/refrigerated on the back and frozen in the last aisle to the left. Patel Brothers Farmers Market Owner: Swetal & Rakesh Patel Opened: ca. 2010 Previous Tenants: smaller businesses Cooperative:  none Location: 1084-1088 US-46, Parsippany, NJ Photographed: December 2020 We are here to tour the Patel Brothers Farmers Market at US-46 and Beverwyck Road! (The Foodtown of Lake Hiawatha , of course, is just up Beverwyck.) Patel Brothers uses the Farmers Market branding on their smaller stores, such as Jersey City , and this store is fairly small for a Patel Brothers at just 6700 square feet. For that reason, this is going to be a pretty quick store tour. We enter to a produce department with the registers on the right-side wall and grocery aisles to the left. Note that the aisles run parallel to the front wall of the store here. Here's another look at produce looking over towards the registers of which I believe there are 3.
