Right? Right. Okay. Keep that in mind. So here we are in Point Pleasant Beach! It's a shore town, about halfway between Asbury Park and Seaside Heights, and home to Jenkinson's Boardwalk , which you might've heard of. It's also home to this supermarket, which faithfully served the town's business district as the only grocer for decades. It was an ACME starting around the 1940s, becoming a Foodtown about 20 or 30 years later. By the 1970s, it was a Norkus Foodtown, which sold all their stores to Stop & Shop in 2011. And it (and neighboring towns) have an enormous number of supermarkets. Old Bridge itself has a new ShopRite , an ACME , a new Seabra's Market , and an ALDI , and obviously the ShopRite is the heavy hitter there. But the surrounding area has any number of other supermarkets, ranging from international stores to discount stores to full supermarkets. It's a competitive market, and newcomers sometimes struggle. In fact, the space that is now Seabra's was previously a SuperFresh for just a couple months from June to October...

Stop & Shop Opened: 2011 Owner:  Ahold Delhaize Previous Tenants:  ACME Markets > Norkus Foodtown (closed 2011) Cooperative:  none Location:  505 Richmond Ave, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ Photographed:  December 22, 2021 Closing Date: October 31, 2024 It's time for a look at one of the smallest Stop & Shop stores out there! The store measures just around 18,000 square feet, although there may be additional space on the second floor or in the basement for backrooms, storage, offices, and the like. It dates back to the early 1930s when the space was constructed as a theater, then by the 1940s or 50s, it had become an ACME. By the 1980s, it became a Foodtown owned by the Norkus family, and ultimately, became a Stop & Shop in 2011 when they acquired Norkus Foodtown .
