ALDI Opening: TBA Owner:  ALDI Sud Previous Tenants:  Amazon Fresh (planned, never opened) Cooperative:  none Location:  430 New Dorp Ln, Staten Island, NY Photographed:  April 14, 2025 This post is just a quick lookk at an ALDI coming soon to Staten Island. I had previously been to this spot when it was slated to become an Amazon Fresh (with its signature facade), but this store and another in-progress Amazon Fresh in Connecticut went to ALDI. ALDI won't be taking the whole space, as a thrift store is moving into the other side. You can see ALDI has also kept a bit of the Amazon Fresh facade, but made it their own (and removed the recognizable green stripes, opting instead for gray and black). An opening date hasn't yet been announced for this store. It'll be the second ALDI on Staten Island, joining one about three miles west that opened in September . Amazon Fresh Opening: date not announced P revious Tenants:  non-grocery tenants Location:  430 New Dorp Ln, New Dorp, Staten Island, NY Photographed:  January 13, 2023 We're here on Staten Island to check out one of several dozen or more unopened but fully built Amazon Fresh shells around the country, which has the telltale facade with the green stripes but no signage. I'm not sure how much is done on the inside since the windows were all covered over, but the 40,000 square foot store could very well be ready to launch anytime. Amazon Fresh as a whole is in limbo as extensively discussed on this forum , so this one is likely to remain as it is for some time. If this store ever does open, it's got a very tough location in an awkwardly situated strip mall on Hylan Boulevard, which within a few blocks in either direction is also home to a Stop & Shop, a very new ShopRite, the new HL Supermarket , and a small market called Family Fruit. HL Supermarket Owner: John Lin Opened:  October 2022 Cooperative:  none Location:  2380 Hylan Blvd, New Dorp, Staten Island, NY Photographed:  January 13, 2023 While Asian Food Markets was working on building its new store in the northwestern corner of Staten Island, five miles southeast near the eastern coast of the island, it was announced that a Brooklyn-based Chinese supermarket would be taking over a 30,000 square foot vacant former banquet hall . After extensive renovation, HL Supermarket opened their New Dorp store in November 2022. All the grandeur of the Excelsior Grand may have been removed from the front wall, but the wall now displays murals of food items. A slightly strange layout, but it ends up working fine -- the main parking lot and entrance are in the rear of the store. But driving down busy Hylan Boulevard, you can't miss this massive signage.
