Super Foodtown of Caldwell Owner: Jack Shakoor / Jack's Supermarkets Opened: 1984 as Jack's Super IGA, ca. 2005 as Jack's Foodtown Previous Tenants:  multiple small supermarkets > Hy's Foodtown (1960s-1984) Cooperative:  Allegiance Retail Services Location:  370 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell, NJ Photographed:  March 2022 After an extensive interior remodel, which was most recently documented here , the exterior of the Caldwell Foodtown has completed its remodel, too. The removal of the storefront exposed quite a few of the older storefronts underneath, which have been preserved but sadly covered up with the existing new facade. And while it's a major improvement over the prior facade, I just wish the sign had individual letters instead of them all on a box. It just looks cheap this way. But overall the storefront does look excellent, and fits in nicely with the small-town downtown of Caldwell. By the way, this store became Jack's Super IGA in 1984, then Foodtown...

Super Foodtown of Bloomfield Owner: Jack Shakoor / Jack's Supermarkets Opened:  2015 Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  Allegiance Retail Services Location:  296 Glenwood Ave, Bloomfield, NJ Photographed:  December 2021 My first round of pictures from the Foodtown in Bloomfield was taken way back in May 2016 , several cell phones ago, so the quality is not wonderful. I finally returned for the first time in many years to shop here on the day after Christmas 2021 and I had forgotten how much I like this store. (The Caldwell Jack's Foodtown is much closer to me, so I frequently end up shopping there when I want a Foodtown.) But I came back to Bloomfield and there have been a few changes, and I thought I'd use that as an excuse to re-photograph the whole store and basically do an updated store tour. We last stopped by in November . While the signage has yet to go up, the exterior is otherwise almost done. Fake windows have been installed on the front wall (at least, I assume they're fake because the dairy department lines the front wall).  I believe there will also be awnings added over the windows. By the way, using Groceteria's awesome new list of Bloomfield-Montclair and suburbs , we can find out that there were quite a few grocery stores that were all combined into one large space. Address: 600 Myrtle Ave, Boonton, NJ Opened:  unknown Closed:  unknown Later Tenants:  Jack's IGA > Drug Fair > Walgreens Photographed:  July 2021 Today we have three stores in Boonton which we'll be passing through from east to west! Our first is this 13,000 square foot store which JoshAustin610 posits may have been a 1960s-era ShopRite. Later, it became the Boonton IGA which seems to later have transitioned into Jack's Super IGA no later than 1991. By the middle of that decade, Jack's Super IGA also opened the Kenvil IGA in Kenvil and Boonton closed at the time of the opening of the A&P next door (which would've been around 1997). Caldwell opened around 96, North Arlington around 98, and Kenvil closed around 2000. About that same time, shortly after Kenvil closed, Jack Shakoor switched over to Foodtown. My prediction on the last update was true, by the way: the new facade is being installed directly on top of all those existing signs, so chances are they'll be buried for who knows how long again! After posting my previous look at the ongoing remodel , a Twitter user tipped me off to the remants of the long-ago tenants beautifully preserved underneath the facade of the Foodtown. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let's review this store's history a little. The row of storefronts originally had several tenants, which are listed here . The storefront all the way to the right was Pfitzenmeyer's Market, which we see revealed in the first picture.
