Adelita's Mexican Market Owner: Ellie Adelita Opened:  2003 Cooperative:  none Location:  344 W Marshall St, Norristown, PA Photographed:  July 22, 2021 Our next Norristown stop is Adelita's Mexican Market, a small corner store that's one of many corner and small storefronts selling groceries (including quite a few selling Latin American foods) around the city. Looks like the store is about 1700 square feet. I do think Norristown is a very nice town with some great buildings -- a lot of old but nicely preserved and maintained buildings like this one, and a lot of trees lining the main streets. Anyway, our next stop is outside of town just a little bit to the west, and we're going to tour that tomorrow here on The Independent Edition!

DeKalb Supermarket Owner: Young Kim Opened:  unknown Cooperative:  IGA Location:  815 DeKalb St, Norristown, PA Photographed:  July 22, 2021 We arrive at the supermarket in downtown Norristown for a look around! This store was built in the 1950s as an A&P, which closed by the 1970s and became the Norristown Thriftway at some point. After that, it transitioned to the DeKalb Supermarket which was also affiliated with Thriftway/Shop n Bag (and branded with both logos). In 2016, when Thriftway/Shop n Bag dissolved, this store and most of the others joined IGA under the Retail Marketing Group. This store is under the same ownership as the Chelten Market , and interestingly enough, that store received a new fleet of carts shortly after it opened and that store's old carts were sent here to Norristown. H&L Grocery Deli Owner: unknown Opened:  2012 Cooperative:  none Location:  254 E Fornance St, Norristown, PA Photographed:  July 22, 2021 I love the way these little grocery stores are built into houses! There's a good chance this building has had a grocery store here for a century. In many older cities, these grocers hang on despite changing ownership many times and are still open after decades. Norristown, a small city of about 35,000, has several supermarkets outside of the downtown area, but in the central part of the city, there's really only one alongside many of these corner stores and other small grocers. We're going to tour the main supermarket downtown tomorrow, right here on The Independent Edition!
