The small store at Yorktowne Center has changed ownership, and is in the process of switching from Buddy's Marketplace, which I visited a couple years ago , to Monmouth Market. The new owners are still making changes, so the store is definitely not finished just yet. As you can see, a permanent sign hasn't been installed outside yet. And inside, the store is undergoing a reset. It looks like the new owners are looking to keep the highlights of Buddy's Marketplace -- the deli, prepared foods, and meats -- and add some new selections. The grocery aisles are still also being restocked, but it looks like the new owners are making an effort to bring in more Middle Eastern products alongside ...

Original Tenant:  ACME Markets Address: 300 Gordons Corner Rd, Manalapan, NJ Opened:  1970s Closed:  unknown Later Tenants:  Rex-Gene Food Warehouse > Western Beef Supermarket > subdivided Photographed:  February 2021 I knew this 24,000 square foot space was a 1970s-era ACME, tucked away in the back of the Yorktowne Center in Manalapan, but I found while researching for the West Long Branch post that it had later become a Rex-Gene Food Warehouse and then a Western Beef (very briefly) before being subdivided into multiple spaces including a gym, as we see here. NetCost Market Owner: Sam Shnayder Opened:  2016 Previous Tenants: Grand Union > Norkus Foodtown > Stop & Shop Cooperative:  Krasdale-supplied Location:  700 Tennent Rd, Manalapan, NJ Photographed:  February 2021 It's time for our very first-ever NetCost Market! Manalapan is one of the 12 locations of the Brooklyn-based Russian supermarket chain, occupying about 42,000 square feet of this small strip mall. Built as a Grand Union and later a Norkus Foodtown that became a Stop & Shop , NetCost opened about a year after Stop & Shop's closure in 2015. Note that that means Stop & Shop was open in this location for just about four years -- a rather short life for a Stop & Shop. As we'll see, NetCost doesn't seem to have left much from Stop & Shop at first glance but there's actually a lot left when you look carefully.
