Here in Rochelle Park, we see a completely different story -- this clearly very high-volume ShopRite has completed a beautiful renovation that has made the whole store feel much more modern than it is.  Originating in 1955 as just a fraction of its current size over 80,000 square feet, the ShopRite of Rochelle Park was the original Glass Gardens store. Today, Glass Gardens owns ShopRite stores in Pearl River, Brooklyn , Queens, Linden , Perth Amboy , Englewood, Paramus, Rockaway , and Wharton along with this store. Anything might seem unimpressive compared to Old Bridge , but up in Rochelle Park, Glass Gardens has done an impressive job transforming their original location into a much larger supermarket of close to 85,000 square feet (including a liquor store inside the supermarket). We saw the store most recently as this expansion was under construction, and it looks completely finished now. Wow! The grand aisle is now located entirely in the expansion except for part of the produce department. A very large prepared foods section lines the right side of the grand aisle, with multiple rows of salad bars, hot food bars, Chinese food, and a to-order grill. I visited in 2016 and basically found it so unpleasant that I never returned until I happened to be driving by a few weeks ago and noticed major construction going on. I knew I had to see what was happening! Although the store is a whopping 76,000 square feet, it doesn't feel like it because it's so cramped. The building was not constructed as what we see today, but instead appears to have been built around a 20,000 square foot or so 1950s building, expanded many times and currently undergoing its latest expansion.
