We last visited this spot back in January , when I stopped by to see it in progress as it transitioned from an Associated to an Antillana SuperFood. Associated is still making its presence known here, though, as the storefront includes the distinctive red, white, and blue A logo next to the Antillana name. Prior to Associated, it was a Pioneer. Lots more history on that January post linked above. Now, the store has reopened (not sure if it's simply rebranded or under new ownership) after a significant renovation. Let's check it out! Antillana SuperFood Marketplace Opening:  TBA Owner: Jose Grullon Previous Tenants:  A&P > Key Food (opened 1982) > AIM (closed 2008) > Pioneer (2008-2023) > Associated (2023-2025) Cooperative:  Associated Supermarket Group Location: 616 Melrose Ave, Bronx, NY Photographed: December 12, 2025 In the Melrose section of the Bronx, Antillana SuperFood is preparing to open its latest location in a space that's been a supermarket for many decades but has gone through a couple brands recently. The roughly 7,000 square foot space (more if there's a basement, which there probably is) appears to have been built as an A&P, which lasted at least into the 70s. Key Food opened up here in 1982, but it's not clear when they closed. By 2007, it was an independent AIM (Association of Independent Merchants) supermarket supplied by Krasdale, and the following year it became a Pioneer. Remsen Village Marketplace Opened: October 2025 Owner:  Robert Almonte Previous Tenants: Fine Fare > Met Foodmarkets > Food Universe Marketplace Cooperative:  Krasdale Location:  405 Remsen Ave, Brooklyn, NY Photographed:  October 29, 2025; December 1, 2025; and February 11, 2025 (Food Universe) A small, mostly residential neighborhood between East Flatbush and Brownsville, Remsen Village isn't a neighborhood you hear much talk of. Today, we're going to check out the supermarket right in the middle of the neighborhood as it makes a (relatively minor) change. 405 Remsen Avenue appears to have been a grocery store since at least the 1980s, eventually becoming Fine Fare in the early 00s or so. Fine Fare closed around 2013, becoming a Met Foodmarket the following year. In 2015, the store became a Food Universe, a Key Food brand. And just two months ago, the store has changed its name again, this time becoming the independent Remsen Village Marketplace. I'm very g...
