25059 US-11, Hallstead, PA

Original Tenant:  ACME Markets Address:  25059 US-11, Hallstead, PA Opened:  late 1960s Closed:  1994 Later Tenants:  Bi-Lo > Big M Photographed:  August 2020 Check out that pitched-roof! This bonus store, located just south of Binghamton, NY 2 miles south of the NY-PA border. This store has been covered extensively over on Acme Style, so I won't go too much into detail. The only difference we really notice is that the sign has been removed. And for reference... this is the picture, snapped from the interstate, from which I cropped the above image... This rounds out our Finger Lakes-Southern Tier group, but there's more fun! Head over to The Market Report tomorrow to check out our Streetside Sights & Scenes feature, for photos of the region that aren't supermarkets! And then we're on to the last group in New York state.

TOUR: Big M Supermarkets - Ovid, NY

Ovid Super Market Owner:  Suzanne Cirencione Opened:  1970 Previous Tenants:  Unknown Cooperative:  Big M Supermarkets Location:  7174 Main St, Ovid, NY Photographed:  August 2020 Now onto our second look at a Finger Lakes Big M store! (See the Bloomfield location here .) This store recently changed ownership and has been fixed up a bit. Today, it's looking very good, compared to how it looked in 2007 . The 12,000 square foot store appears to have been expanded very much from its original approximately 4600 square feet. It's recently been remodeled lightly with new roofing and awning outside, plus new flooring inside as we'll see. We enter to a small but very nice produce department in the first aisle. Notice the new flooring and updated produce bins. Looking back up towards the front wall of the store. Customer service is just around the corner at the far side of the produce case in the expansion, with chips and beverage...

Look Inside: Big M Supermarkets - Bloomfield, NY

Today is an exciting day. We get to see the first interior of a Finger Lakes store! For whatever reason, this group is a little light on tours, but I did get a few interior pictures here. (A note on the map - after going across the top three, we are now moving across the next row from the west to east.) I had no idea the Big M was here in Bloomfield, but as we were driving through the very small town, I spotted this store. I immediately exclaimed some partially-coherent gibberish about stopping, and my father immediately turned around the car. I have trained my parents well. And boy, was it worth the stop. I was the only shopper (are you a shopper if you don't buy anything?) in the store, so I tried to get in and out quickly. Produce and dairy in the first aisle. Meat/deli on back wall, with frozen in the last aisle. As you will notice, the decor in the store is quite old, but the fixtures are brand-new. They were, in fact, in the process of being installed at the time...
