Special Report: Heavenly Foodmarket - Hudson Yards, Manhattan, NY

Heavenly Foodmarket Opened: mid-October 2024 Owner:  unknown Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  Krasdale Foods Location:  311 11th Ave, Hudson Yards/West Chelsea, Manhattan, NY Photographed:  October 23, 2024 Amazon Fresh promises an easier, higher-tech shopping experience, but this store goes a bit further: shopping here is no less than Heavenly. Heavenly appears to be a small chain of delis and convenience stores across New York City, but they've opened what appears to be their first supermarket near Hudson Yards in far western Chelsea. What draws most people to this location is probably the High Line , a converted elevated train line that's now a walking path. It's from a High Line bridge that I took the above picture, and don't worry, when I was in this neighborhood, I did walk the whole High Line. But as cool as it would be, this isn't a rail-trail blog, this is a supermarket blog. So let's tour the new Heavenly Foodmarket at 11th Avenue and 30th Stree...

Look Inside: WFM Daily Shop - Chelsea, Manhattan, NY

Returning to, yes, the same building as yesterday's tour for a look inside the convenience store at the other end of the building. I'm assuming Whole Foods management made the decision that a separate Whole Body (health and beauty) store didn't make sense, so those products were consolidated into the main supermarket with this second storefront, which does not connect to the main supermarket, becoming a convenience store. Interestingly enough, it doubles up a lot of selection that the supermarket has but probably offers the basics for a shorter checkout time and less crowded facility. In addition to the produce, grab-and-go meals and snacks, and beverages, there's a coffee and juice counter at the back of the store. There's no shortage of coffee shops in Manhattan, but it's probably a convenient spot to get a few items at once. There's no seating area here or in the main supermarket, however. The store is at the corner of 7th Avenue and 25th ...

TOUR: Whole Foods Market - Chelsea, Manhattan, NY

Today's store tour is about one block west of the Fairway and Sunac we saw at 6th Ave and 25th St. Today we're at 7th between 24th and 25th. This Whole Foods has been here for a while, but has been newly remodeled. The former Whole Body space, which sells health and beauty items, used to be next door but has been converted to a convenience store with health and beauty being incorporated into the main supermarket. We're going to see the convenience store tomorrow. You enter with produce and seafood in the first room. The wall to the right above is the front wall of the store, with checkouts running along the side wall, on 24th Street. Produce, seafood, and floral are in the first room, with meat and bulk foods lining an extremely cramped walkway to the back room, which contains grocery aisles, dairy, frozen, and deli/bakery. Checkouts run along the side in a single-line format. The seafood counter is very nice, and wraps around to a butcher counter on the side...

Snapshot: Fairway Market - Chelsea, Manhattan, NY

We're returning to the Fairway Market in Chelsea once again (see previous coverage here ) for some better exterior pictures and one other shot. This is one of the locations that has been purchased in Fairway's bankruptcy auction by Springfield, NJ-based ShopRite owner Village Super Market. And while I hope that Village improves Fairway (including by making them more like their ShopRite locations), there is one thing I hope they don't change... ...those famous New York bagels! Man, are they good. This location is at 766 6th Ave, Manhattan, NY. Photographed May 2019

Snapshot: Trader Joe's - Chelsea, Manhattan, NY

Today we have a quick snapshot of a Trader Joe's at 675 6th Avenue at the southern part of Chelsea, Manhattan! The store opened ca. 2012 and you can take an interactive tour here . The store looks really nice, even though I'm not typically a fan of Trader Joe's. Photographed January 2019
