That's because it actually dates back to 1899, though it was taken over by the current owner in 2000. You can read a lot more about the history of the store on its own website here . At only around 2700 square feet, this is definitely closer to a general store than a full supermarket, but there's a surprising range of groceries available inside -- and locals' favorite Italian subs. Hannaford Opened:  early 00s Owner: Ahold Delhaize Previous Tenants: Shop n Save (1990s-early 00s) Cooperative: none Location: 175 Coliseum Ave, Nashua, NH Photographed: July 2, 2026 Over the past few years, I've come to really love Hannaford. By and large, their stores are in great shape, well-run, and well-priced. This Nashua location is no exception. It's a pretty new store to begin with, having been constructed as a Shop 'n Save around the mid-90s. It became a Hannaford in the early 2000s, and has been renovated at least once since then. At around 65,000 square feet, this store feels plenty large but not too big, like some of the supermarkets in this area. This isn't a flagship store quite as much as some (that's about 15 miles north of here), but there's a lot here. ALDI Opened:  2016 Owner: Aldi Sud Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative: none Location: 270 Amherst St, Nashua, NH Photographed: October 10, 2021 Right across the street from Nashua's first Whole Foods location is this ALDI, which opened in 2016. It doesn't look like it, but it was actually a new-build location -- the majority of new-build ALDIs seem to be freestanding, not in strip malls like this. Tomorrow, we'll be seeing another big-chain supermarket just south of here!

Whole Foods Market Opened: 2014 Owner: Amazon Previous Tenants:  Market Basket (1990-2013) Cooperative: none Location: 255 Amherst St, Nashua, NH Photographed: October 10, 2021 Nashua's proximity to Boston and large commuter population makes it a great place for businesses to enter the state for the first time. This was Whole Foods' first New Hampshire store, opening in a former Market Basket in 2014 . Market Basket almost never closes stores, and the only reason they did here was because they were able to replace this location with a massive new one just up the street , and at 85,000 square feet, that store dwarfs this 30,000 square foot one. Produce is on the right side, with bakery in the back-right corner. Meat and seafood counters line the back wall with dairy in the back-left corner, frozen on the left side, and deli/prepared foods on the left side of the store. Market Basket Opened: 2013 Owner: Demoulas family Previous Tenants:  Sears Essentials Cooperative: none Location: 375 Amherst St, Nashua, NH Photographed: October 10, 2021 Although Nashua is in New Hampshire, it's very close to Massachusetts, so we're under 15 miles from Market Basket's hometown of Lowell . Market Basket has been here a long time, so there are some older stores in this area. But one of those older stores closed in 2013 to be replaced by this sprawling 85,000 square foot store, taking up a former Sears Essentials. The previous location became a Whole Foods; this now is the largest supermarket in Nashua, I believe. This is a standard modern Market Basket layout. Dairy is in aisle 1 on the left side, with deli and seafood at the back of the first aisle. Meat lines the rest of the back wall, and frozen/produce are on the right side. This store has the full Market's Kitchen and Market's Cafe departments in the front-right corner, along with bakery. ...
