This is the first time we're seeing an Eataly on the blog, and that's partially because there aren't that many. It's also partially because they're not really supermarkets -- they are, in part, gourmet markets (but also restaurants and food halls/cafes). But for the first time, the chain has opened a New Jersey location, so it's only fair that I've gotta go check it out! Eataly is a food hall concept created by Oscar Farinetti in 2007, when the first location opened in Torino, Italy. A document from Millburn's township government at the end of last year made mention of the grocery store coming soon, but shortly after that this page appeared . Cornucopia Natural Foods is a small natural food store in the Long Island community of Sayville, on the south shore not quite halfway across the island. They're also preparing to open in this 7000 square foot, long-vacant space on the border of Millburn and Springfield. When I visited back in August, the space had been cleared out but renovation to open the grocer hadn't yet begun. ShopRite of Millburn Opened: 1976 Owner:  Village Super Market Previous Tenants:  Staff-Good Deal Cooperative:  Wakefern Food Corp Location:  220 Main St, Millburn, NJ Photographed:  June 15, 2024 I think this is going to be our last visit to the ShopRite of Millburn for a while! The 32,000 square foot store was originally home to a Staff-Good Deal supermarket, acquired by ShopRite operator Village Super Market in 1976. It didn't get much updating after that, but in 2023, a pretty significant renovation started on the aging store. We last saw it in October at the tail end of its remodel, but it's now done and looking great! Except for the outside, of course, which I wish had gotten some love in the renovation. (That picture, by the way, is from July 2023; the rest are from Saturday afternoon.) ShopRite of Millburn Owner: Village Super Market Opened:  1976 Previous Tenants:  Staff-Good Deal Cooperative:  Wakefern Food Corp Location:  220 Main St, Millburn, NJ Photographed:  August 20, 2023 It's time for another look at the renovation ongoing at the Millburn ShopRite! We last saw some pictures I took back in June , I wish I had more up-to-date pictures than this, but here's what the store was looking like back in August as it was wrapping up its remodel. (The store held its grand reopening, after putting on the finishing touches, on 10/8.) Of course, no decor had been installed yet in the front area, but the old deli and seafood area has been rearranged into a self-service grab-and-go area, making the front area much more spacious. The deli has been moved into the corner, which I think has downsized the deli counter but freed up a lot of space in the area.
