Original Tenant: Saker ShopRite Address: 4437 NJ-27, Kingston, South Brunswick, NJ Opened:  1970s Closed:  1996 Later Tenants:  Retro Fitness Photographed:  January 2021 Technically within the borders of South Brunswick Township, where we saw a ShopRite yesterday, we have a 35,000 square foot former ShopRite also previously owned by the Sakers. Today, it's a Retro Fitness and is referred to by them as Princeton (but of course, since Princeton is a big name, everything within a half-day's drive of here is called Princeton). The Montgomery ShopRite opened in 1996 as a replacement for this store, roughly two and a half miles northwest. Tomorrow, we are heading directly into downtown Princeton for a tour of the downtown's main supermarket on The Independent Edition !

ALDI Opened: 2020 Previous Tenants:  Best Buy Location:  4180 US-1, South Brunswick, NJ Photographed:  February 2021 Quick look at the ALDI here in South Brunswick at Heritage Plaza, which was previously a Best Buy electronics store. The ShopRite in town was newly built just 800 feet away in 2019, but this strip mall had existed previously. Check out the interior here . Tomorrow is a big ShopRite day, with a former store on Grocery Archaeology and the one that replaced it here on The Market Report!

Location:  4151 US-1, South Brunswick, NJ Photographed:  February 2021 We arrive at Heritage Plaza, a newly-constructed spread-out strip mall along route 1 in South Brunswick that opened in 2019. Interestingly enough, it was constructed with two supermarkets -- this ShopRite and an ALDI just 800 feet down the driveway. It's been a while since we saw a Saker ShopRite, which more or less run across the central band of the state (from the Trenton area in the west to the northern Jersey Shore in the east). So all of our ShopRites are going to be Saker stores until we get down towards the Camden area. This store was a much-anticipated addition to town, since South Brunswick was lacking a supermarket following the closure of the Stop & Shop just up the highway. The strip mall is a bit strange in setup since the ShopRite ...
