Original Grocery Tenant:  Stop & Shop Address:  1200 Park St, Frog Hollow, Hartford, CT Opened:  1968 Closed:  after 1985 Later Tenants:  subdivided Photographed:  July 9, 2023 What's today the IKASA Furniture & Mattress store and a neighboring Dollar Tree was previously a Home Mart (...where you are the star!) but originally, back in 1968, opened as a 25,000 square foot Stop & Shop with a Bradlees next door. After Stop & Shop closed -- at some point after 1985 -- Save-A-Lot opened up in the space to the right of the former supermarket, taking up around 15,000 square feet. But by 2011, the Save-A-Lot moved a few doors over and 10,000 square feet up in size, then closing in 2020. That space is now a Key Food . Tomorrow we're off to East Hartford to check out another former supermarket!

This was their second Hartford-area store, with the older one in Waterbury opening a year before this. The 25,000 square foot store opened in a former Save-A-Lot in 2020, and the store is in a slice of a former Bradlees department store. There also was a Stop & Shop supermarket at the other end of the strip mall. Since this one, Key Food has opened in Save-A-Lot stores in New Britain , East Hartford, and Manchester (coming soon), as well as Indian Orchard, MA, and Providence, RI. Original Tenant: Bradlees Address: 2200 Mount Holly Rd, Burlington, NJ Opened:  unknown Closed:  1995 Later Tenants:  ACME Markets (1997-2017) Photographed:  January 2021 Welcome to the northern suburbs of Camden! We begin with a look at this former ACME, which itself was in part of a Bradlees. The store opened in 1997 and closed 20 years later, hurting from a combination of the expansion of the Walmart in this strip mall into a Walmart Supercenter and the conversion of a former Kmart about half a mile north on Mount Holly Rd to a rather spectacular ShopRite. (That, by the way, is our other post of the day .) I really regret not going up to the storefront to see if any ACME remnants remain in the portion of the store to the left (the right portion of the store is now a Planet Fitness). ShopRite of Bordentown Owner: Richard Saker / Saker Supermarkets Opened:  1992 Previous Tenants:  Two Guys department store (with food department in ShopRite's current footprint) Cooperative:  Wakefern Food Corp. Location:  622 US-206, Bordentown, NJ Photographed:  January 2021 The 57,000 square foot ShopRite of Bordentown opened in 1992 in part of a former Two Guys, according to JoshAustin610 . The other part of the store became a Bradlees, which until recently was still proudly listed on the monument sign for the strip mall. Because this store has none of the hallmarks of 1990s-era Saker stores (this store would've opened around the same time as Edison , likely), but is not unlike Pennington , I wouldn't be surprised if this was a Laurenti > Big V > Foodarama store as described on Whitehorse .
