I mentioned the other day that there's been a lot going on, including a lot of grand openings and renovations. Saker ShopRites is one of the largest Wakefern members, with around 40 stores. (They recently acquired seven stores from Perlmart, another Wakefern member, in 2021.) Saker notoriously maintains their store fleet exceptionally well, with the vast majority of the stores. Notable exceptions include Edison , Pennington (an extreme), Bordentown , and the Perlmart stores. Until recently, the Piscataway location numbered among those, but yesterday, the brand-new ShopRite of Hadley Commons opened at the former Middlesex Mall. Original Grocery Tenant: ShopRite Address: 1740 Stefko Blvd, Bethlehem, PA Opened:  ca. 1970s Closed:  1989 Later Tenants:  Strauss Auto > subdivided Photographed:  January 13, 2022 Not too much to see here, but this former ShopRite (which if I'm not mistaken was owned by Saker Supermarkets, although I'm not positive of that) is located to the northeast of center city Bethlehem. It's around 36,000 square feet, which is right in line with many of the 1970s ShopRites. I'm not positive whether the tall sign seen here is left over from ShopRite, but it wouldn't surprise me if that were the case. ShopRite might not be in this immediate neighborhood, but the Wakefern cooperative has returned with a store just a few doors down on Stefko Boulevard. ShopRite of Montgomery Owner: Richard Saker / Saker Supermarkets Opened: 1996 Previous Tenants: none Cooperative: Wakefern Food Corp. Location: 1325 US-206, Skillman, NJ Photographed: May 2022 We return to the Skillman ShopRite , although nothing has really changed. The one thing that has changed is the fact that the upstairs cafe is open again, or at least they let me go through to use the bathroom, and so we get a second-floor shot of the grand aisle(s)... ShopRite of Bordentown Owner: Richard Saker / Saker Supermarkets Opened:  1992 Previous Tenants:  Two Guys department store (with food department in ShopRite's current footprint) Cooperative:  Wakefern Food Corp. Location:  622 US-206, Bordentown, NJ Photographed:  January 2021 The 57,000 square foot ShopRite of Bordentown opened in 1992 in part of a former Two Guys, according to JoshAustin610 . The other part of the store became a Bradlees, which until recently was still proudly listed on the monument sign for the strip mall. Because this store has none of the hallmarks of 1990s-era Saker stores (this store would've opened around the same time as Edison , likely), but is not unlike Pennington , I wouldn't be surprised if this was a Laurenti > Big V > Foodarama store as described on Whitehorse .
