This was Whole Foods' first New Hampshire store, opening in a former Market Basket in 2014 . Market Basket almost never closes stores, and the only reason they did here was because they were able to replace this location with a massive new one just up the street , and at 85,000 square feet, that store dwarfs this 30,000 square foot one. Produce is on the right side, with bakery in the back-right corner. Meat and seafood counters line the back wall with dairy in the back-left corner, frozen on the left side, and deli/prepared foods on the left side of the store. Whole Foods Market Opened:  February 26, 2026 Owner:  Amazon Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  none Location:  774 Grand St, Brooklyn, NY Photographed:  February 27, 2026 It's time to visit the latest Whole Foods Daily Shop, which opened in the trendy Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg this week. This store is just under 8,000 square feet, putting it in line with the other New York City locations . This and a smaller store in Hoboken, NJ are the only small-format Daily Shops outside of Manhattan in this area (there's another in Virginia), but Whole Foods has said they intend to continue to expand the chain. The store is designed very similarly to the other NYC locations (Hoboken, by nature of its history, has a rather different interior design). Produce is the first department you enter to, with baked goods on the front wall. Prepared foods, cheese, and meat/seafood are in the first aisle, with dairy on the back wall and frozen in the last aisle. Th...

But it only gets better from here! That said, this Swampscott Whole Foods is an interesting store for sure. It was built in the 1960s by Star Market, which operated here until approximately the 1990s (though I can't find a solid opening or closing date). By 1999, local chain Johnnie's Foodmaster was preparing to move in, and they opened in 2000. Whole Foods acquired several of their locations when they went under in 2012, but they actually took over this 36,500 square foot store back in 2004. Whole Foods Market Opened: 2013 Owner:  Amazon Previous Tenants:  unknown Cooperative:  none Location:  427 Walnut St, Lynnfield, MA Photographed:  January 10, 2025 Today's two Whole Foods posts (here and in Swampscott ) are quick drive-by photos, but here we can still get a good sense of the store. The 40,000 square foot Whole Foods here in Lynnfield was built in 2013, opening at the same time as the rest of the massive mall it's in, called Market Street. Inside, it looks like an attractive but unremarkable Whole Foods. Still, after seeing lots of Whole Foods in the Boston area for a couple months, this is the last Whole Foods I have to post for quite some time. There are fewer Whole Foods in northern New England -- well, heck, there's fewer of most things as you get into northern New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine -- and in fact, Vermont is one of only six states with no Whole Foods stores. On Monday, we're headed out to the coast to Marblehead!

And these bank buildings have been repurposed in all kinds of ways. My personal favorite, naturally, is as a supermarket. Whole Foods' latest New Jersey store, which opened last month, takes up a gorgeous former bank in downtown Hoboken. It's also the latest Daily Shop  -- not to mention the first in New Jersey and the smallest yet, at just 4800 square feet. The store is located on bustling Washington Street, a block over from a longtime independent natural food store Organic Basic Food . (And I've seen more than one review/post online comparing this store unfavorably to the stalwart independent organic market.)
