The Market Report

(POST-PUBLISHING UPDATE: There are throughout references to the ShopRite of Parsippany, which was previously posted on The Market Report's Flickr page. We're heading up to New London, CT, a small port city on the Thames River, which ultimately opens up into the Long Island Sound. But wait, you're thinking, haven't we been to New London before? Ding ding ding! Yes we have, twice! We saw the last remaining NSA Supermarket on S Frontage Rd in the original tour and then in a revisit . We saw the NSA Supermarket of New London, CT in a tour in January 2018. One of my complaints then was the fact that one of the refrigerator cases along the back wall was broken and stocked with a whole lot of Goya tomato sauce... I am pleased to report that this is no longer the case (ha ha)! This fixture has actually been removed and the space is now used for large bags of rice. Much better, because it doesn't look like something is broken.

Back on the AFB Worcester post, I gave a little bit of history of America's Food Basket and its predecessor: "In 2005, a group of independent Met Foods operators decided to split off from Met, then under the supervision of White Rose Foods, and form their own cooperative. This was probably the largest single blow to the Met Foods group, and the already-struggling cooperative started its quickly-increasing decline. The bankruptcy of White Rose put the vulnerable Met and Pioneer Supermarkets banners up for sale, and they were taken over by then-called Associated Food Holdings, today's Associated Supermarket Group.
