News broke in late January that Di Bruno Bros., a Philadelphia-area chain of gourmet markets, would close three of its five stores . That comes after Brown's Super Stores, a ShopRite operator, acquired the chain in 2024 and Di Bruno Bros. became a Wakefern brand . So while the brand has been expanded in the sense that the products are now distributed to the other Wakefern stores, the original stores seem to be struggling. Two will remain, both within Philadelphia city limits. While I was in the Philly region recently to check out soon-to-close Amazon Fresh stores , I also stopped by some Di Bruno Bros. stores. Amazon Fresh announced this week that it will close all of its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores . In a blog post, Amazon said that "various locations" will reopen as Whole Foods, but no further detail has been given yet. It's no secret that the chain has been troubled basically since the start, and it's been retooled many times. Still, the stores never took off, and have been struggling for at least months (and, in all likelihood, from the beginning). Now, all Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores will close tomorrow, February 1, 2026 . Let's revisit a couple of the stores that are closing, plus some more Amazon Fresh info.
