We are coming down to the end of the city of Boston, now that we've finished Back Bay and Longwood! These northwestern neighborhoods are a gradient from the more dense urban and historical character of Back Bay to the more green, suburban Longwood to the west with hospitals and colleges. You can click on any of the points to visit that store's post. Coming Up Next Up next, it's actually time to move outside of the city of Boston and into the neighboring town of Brookline! As you can see on the map above, the town is surrounded on three sides by Boston, but borders the city of Newton on the west. The main part of town is Coolidge Corner, at the intersection of Beacon and Harvard Streets (it's just west of the Longwood area, and about a mile west of the Star Market we saw in Longwood ). Whole Foods Market Opened: 2003 Owner:  Amazon Previous Tenants:  Stop & Shop (opened early 1970s) > Bread & Circus (1995-2003) Cooperative:  none Location:  1065 Westland Ave, Boston, MA Photographed:  July 20, 2019 Supermarkets come in all shapes and sizes. Some are just a little more... unusual. And today we're going to see a round one! Well, to be accurate, it's actually a half-circle one. The roughly 20,000 square foot store opened in the early 1970s as a Stop & Shop, closing at some point before 1995. In 1995, gourmet food store chain Bread & Circus opened up shop, which had actually been owned by Whole Foods for three years at that time following Whole Foods' purchase of the Boston-area chain in 1992. In 2003, the Bread & Circus stores were rebranded Whole Foods . The Whole Foods we saw at the Charles River Plaza about two weeks ago was also a Stop & Shop that was slated to become a Bread & Circus, but it opened after Whol...

Star Market Opened: 2015 Owner:  Albertsons Companies Previous Tenants:  Shaw's (2003-2015) Cooperative:  none Location:  53 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA Photographed:  July 21, 2019 and November 13, 2021 Welcome to the Prudential Center Star Market! This is the largest supermarket in the neighborhood, but it's still on the smaller side at around 40,000 square feet. It opened in 2003 as a Shaw's, replacing an older Star Market on Boylston Street about a block and a half north at 800 Boylston. And although that store was older and smaller, it wasn't even that old, having opened in 1993. This new-build location was a flagship Shaw's, and you can see more of the original store design on this page , and some other locations. The store is a triangle, with the rotunda you can see above at the corner of Ring Road and Huntington Avenue.
