Our final Central Westchester store is a 20,000 square foot former A&P that was briefly converted to The Food Emporium, A&P's upscale banner, and when it was converted back to A&P the deli was still branded The Food Emporium Deli. In the 2015-16 bankruptcy, the location was purchased by Estevez Markets, which also owns the Foodtown location in Yonkers we saw. The renovation done by Estevez was relatively light, but it gave the store a more modern look. While I'm not entirely sure what A&P's layout would have been, it's probably very similar to today's Foodtown layout. You enter to produce in the front right corner, with bakery and deli on the right side wall. Seafood is in the back right corner, with meats along the back wall. What confuses me is a section on the left half of the store that extends farther back which has a few grocery aisles and the beginning of frozen and dairy, which continue in the last aisle. We're heading southwest of the city of White Plains to tour our last two Central Westchester stores. This 10,000 square foot gourmet supermarket is located right in the center of the quaint village of Ardsley. In contrast to, say, Balducci's , this store is a great combination of upscale store-made products, specialty items, and basic groceries as this chain is affiliated with White Plains-based Krasdale Foods. We've previously toured a DeCicco & Sons in Larchmont , and although this store is older than that one, it's no less beautiful. Well, it's not every supermarket that greets you with a gorgeous mosaic in the floor. The grand aisle contains produce, bakery, and deli/prepared foods. Cheese, beer, meat, and seafood continue along the back wall, with dairy and frozen at the far end of the store. Produce runs under a replica tin ceiling with a heavy emphasis on organic products. If this store's exterior looks vaguely familiar, that's because we've actually toured this exact store before! Okay, it was back in our first trip through Westchester , in August 2017. I first visited this store back in February 2017 when it was the independent Greenside Market. Greenside closed in late 2018 with new owners taking over in early 2019 and gut-renovating the store. When I visited in March 2019, the store was still in its soft-opening phase, with permanent exterior signage yet to be installed ( it has since ). Now we've already seen Greenside, but I'm going to include some of those pictures in this post to do a kind of before-and-after comparison. 2017 2019 Grand opening festivities aside, the store has little change outside.
