Just shy of half a mile from yesterday's ShopRite is this Western Beef, which opened as a Waldbaum's. Around 2005, when Waldbaum's closed, Western Beef moved into the 52,000 square foot space from its older location to the west on Forest Avenue. Today, that property now holds a Harbor Freight Tools . Western Beef's entrance is at the far left end of the storefront, leading shoppers into a spacious produce department. (This store has to be one of the largest Western Beef locations out there.) Deli is in an island that runs along the right side of the produce aisle, with seafood at the back of the first aisle and meat in a walk-in cooler along the back wall. Frozen is in the second-to-last aisle with dairy in the last aisle and bakery in the back corner. Oh yeah, something about this store -- it's one of the brightest supermarkets I've ever been in. Now for the post! Welcome to one of the larger supermarkets on Staten Island, a roughly 62,000 square foot ShopRite at Forest and Richmond in the Graniteville section. It was a new-build store around the mid-1990s, got an exterior remodel around 2015, and then got an interior remodel around 2020. You enter on the left side of the store to the produce department, with deli and seafood at the back. Meat lines the rest of the back wall, with beer and milk in an alcove in the back-right corner. Frozen and dairy are on the right side of the store, and bakery is in the front-right corner. There was previously a pharmacy here that closed in or around 2021, but I'm not sure where in the store it...

Our next stop after leaving Brooklyn is Staten Island! Now we have been to Staten Island before, seeing a Key Food Marketplace , a Superfresh that has since closed, and a Met Foodmarket . But, we all know... Ahem. Anyway, we're going to tour EIGHT new supermarkets, see a NEW Superfresh, and RETURN to that Met Foodmarket for a full interior tour! Uh... maybe no one else is as excited about that as I am. But anyway, stay tuned for two weeks of Staten Island.
