Special Report: NeoVista Fresh Market - Albany, NY

NeoVista Fresh Market Opening:  TBA Owner:  NeoVista Equities Previous Tenants: non-grocery tenants Cooperative: unknown Location:  52 James St, Albany, NY Photographed: March 22, 2026 Contributor:  Lars D. We travel to Albany today, to see some pictures sent in by our longtime contributor Lars. NeoVista Fresh Market has announced its arrival at 52 James Street in the center of the city. It's the latest creation of the NeoVista Equities private equity group with expanding holdings across the city, including the venerable Jack's Oyster House and other restaurants . But this group is slightly strange, and it's not clear they actually are getting into the supermarket business despite promising that it's coming soon. Two of the three notices spotted by Lars on the storefront are outdated, and despite a valid permit to gut the building's interior, he reports there was no evidence of any such work going on inside. A promised Brooklyn location at 836 Broadway seems t...

TOUR: ShopRite - Niskayuna, NY

ShopRite of Niskayuna Owner:  ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. Opened:  2011 Previous Tenants:  Grand Union Cooperative:  Wakefern Food Corp. Location:  2333 Nott St E, Niskayuna, NY Photographed:  July 2020 Contributor:  Lars D. Our contributor Lars, who has also brought us a look at the Niskyauna Co-Op and the former Grand Union in this mall, has for us a full store tour of the 54,000 square foot ShopRite of Niskayuna! This store, owned by Wakefern's corporate branch SRS, takes up a building built by Grand Union as a replacement for the 20,000 square foot older store. We have a fairly standard layout, with a grand aisle with produce on the right side and deli/prepared foods in an island to the left. Seafood and meat run along the back wall, with dairy and frozen at the far left end of the store and beer on the front wall in that corner. This store previously had a pharmacy but no longer does, which makes me wonder how it's do...

2309 Nott St E, Niskayuna, NY

Original Tenant:  Grand Union Address:  2309 Nott St E, Niskayuna, NY Opened:  1950s Closed:  late 1990s Later Tenants:  Subdivided Photographed:  July 2020 Contributor:  Lars D. The ShopRite of Niskayuna, NY is a former Grand Union, built in the very final days of the company in the late 1990s until about 2000. I don't know whether the store actually ever opened, but it was designed as a replacement store for an older, 20,000 square foot store which we're looking at here. (To be fair, we're actually looking at the side of the former store.) The store continues behind the rest of the mall, which was constructed later than the original grocery store. The 54,000 square foot replacement store sat vacant for over 10 years before being revitalized as an SRS-owned ShopRite, which you can tour here ! Also make sure to check out the Niskayuna Coop across the street. And as a side note... I am told Thai Thai Bistro is the best Th...
