Original Grocery Tenant: Gristedes Address: 325 NY-100, Somers, NY Opened:  1974 Closed:  unknown Later Tenants:  CVS Photographed:  July 9, 2021 Sometimes my gut feeling leads me astray in deciding what used to be a supermarket, but this 15,000 square foot CVS just felt like a former supermarket to me. A little research shows I was right: the space was built with the rest of the strip mall in 1974 as a Gristedes. The infamously expensive New York City chain has branched out from the city on a few occasions, with their largest expansion being up to Westchester County. We've seen their former stores in Pelham and Scarsdale , too. I don't know when Gristedes closed, but it was well before the 2019 opening of a new upscale supermarket just across the street. DeCicco & Sons Owner: Chris, John, & Joe DeCicco Opened:  2019 Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  Krasdale Foods Location:  266 US-202, Somers, NY Photographed:  July 9, 2021 We are going out with a bang with our last Westchester County store! This was DeCicco & Sons' second new-build store, with the first being in Armonk . It's almost identical to this store, except for a few cosmetic differences. We can see the exterior is a bit different, and the decor is slightly different, but the layout and offerings are nearly identical. It's clearly a winning formula, as DeCicco & Sons has grown across the Westchester County area. It's the only supermarket in the small village of Somers, which previously had a Gristedes across the street . The roughly 22,000 square foot DeCicco & Sons of Somers, in my opinion, ranks right up there with the best of them -- certainly among the most beautiful supermarkets I've been to. ACME Markets Opened: 2015 Previous Tenants:  A&P (1960s-2015) Location:  100 NY-22, Goldens Bridge, NY Photographed:  July 9, 2021 Just a few days ago, we saw the DeCicco of Katonah, residing in an un-expanded A&P centennial. There was another similar store up in this area, although this store was expanded by just a few thousand square feet by A&P, bringing it to its present 18,500 square feet. When A&P went out of business in 2015, this and around 20 other Hudson Valley stores were sold to ACME. As of my 2021 visit, the store had yet to receive any Quality Built decor (even as ACME's few Connecticut stores did) and I don't believe the store has been renovated since. But ACME is making its presence known here with promotional signage and one other thing. I didn't even catch it when I was in store, I'm only noticing it now while writing the post.
