No problem -- that was one of the very first stores I photographed back in 2017 and posted in 2018 . Let's return to check it out! This store opened around 2015, though I haven't been able to nail down an exact opening date. This space has been a supermarket for at least a decade, maybe more, though back in the 70s and 80s it was a furniture store. The store has now been expanded from just 4600 square feet (plus possibly a basement) to 7500 square feet, and a parking lot has been added to a formerly vacant lot next door. City Fresh Market Opened: January 2025 Owner:  A&E Supermarket Group Previous Tenants:  Rite Aid Cooperative:  Retail Grocers Group Location:  583 Grandview Ave, Ridgewood, Queens, NY Photographed:  April 7, 2025 At this point, I've posted too many drugstore-to-supermarket conversions to count. They're all interesting to see, and honestly, a lot of them have turned into really great, unique supermarkets. It's fascinating to see how each operator responds to what that area is looking for. Sometimes it's Mexican foods and fresh-made tortillas . Sometimes it's South Asian groceries . I've enjoyed seeing what each supermarket has done to the respective Rite Aids and Walgreens and CVSs . Here in Ridgewood, Queens -- right on the border of Queens and Brooklyn -- City Fresh Market has opened their latest location in an extensively-renovated former Rite Aid. We're heading diagonally across the street from yesterday's store  to tour this beautiful supermarket. Formerly an Associated Supermarket owned by Bienvenido Nunez, it was acquired by Martin Espinal's A&E Supermarket Group around 2014 and became what I believe was the first City Fresh Market. (Over the next few years, A&E converted all of its various locations to either City Fresh Market or Cherry Valley Marketplace.) A&E is still a member of Associated Supermarket Group, though the stores are no longer branded Associated. And despite the ASG affiliation, the stores do not sell Avenue A products; they sell a combination of Cherry Valley branded products and Parade, which is distributed in the New York area by General Trading of Carlstadt, NJ, which is owned by Retail Grocers Group (Fine Fare).
