Most CTown supermarkets are in New York City, but here in Westchester County, the Tarrytown CTown and a sister store in Ossining have been in business for decades. In fact, this Tarrytown store was one of the very first CTowns. I can't find an exact opening date, but it would've been before 1979 (the first CTowns opened in 1975). The current owners took over the 16,000 square foot supermarket in 2000, and about eight years later, embarked on a major project to remodel the building inside and out.
Its current -- and very attractive -- exterior is far different from what was here previously. In the remodel, a cafe seating area was also added to the second floor.
The store was built as an A&P in the 1950s, actually predating the centennial era, and is oriented to face the street with the parking lot to its side. Produce runs along the first aisle on the left side of the store, with seafood at the end of the first aisle and meat on the back wall. Dairy and frozen are on the right side of the store in the last two aisles, and deli, bakery, and prepared foods are in the front-right corner.
The store is attractive and has generally held up well since its remodel, which now was nearly 20 years ago.
In addition to this CTown, Tarrytown has a small grocer, and a Stop & Shop about a mile and a half outside of downtown. About half a mile west of this CTown is the truly spectacular DeCicco & Sons in Sleepy Hollow.
In 1980, this was one of seven CTowns in Westchester County. Today, there are five, but this is the only one that's still operating of those seven in 1980.
It looks like the seafood department here might be an outside vendor.
The ceiling here is interesting, and given the building's history, it's possible it's original to A&P. It could also be a replica.
As you can see, everything else is quite new here, though. The flooring, grocery shelving, and refrigeration was all redone at the same time the outside was done.
Frozen foods are in the second-to-last aisle...
Over on the back wall, looking towards the seafood/produce side of the store from the dairy/frozen side of the store, below.
This wall of the building has a slight angle, so you can see this aisle actually gets a little wider as you go up towards the front.
The deli-bakery takes up a large portion of the front corner.
This is one of the only CTowns with an in-store bakery.
And opposite that is a hot food bar and salad bar.
A look across the front-end...
I'm impressed with the way the owners of this CTown have managed to make a nearly 75-year-old supermarket feel much newer, and it seems to have no trouble thriving even after DeCicco has opened nearby.

    1. Hi there! I don't think it's the same managers, and while the new owner's name is escaping me right now, it's the same family that also owns the CTown over in Ossining. Thank you for your memories of this store!
