At just a third of the size of the other Hannaford we're seeing today, the Waldoboro store is much smaller and older, too, though it's been nicely remodeled. This one is 19,000 square feet, and was Dave's Shop & Save which opened around the 1960s. The big remodel happened in 2016, bringing it to its current size and modernizing both the interior and exterior.
The inside was redone again more recently, and has the current Hannaford decor package. Tomorrow, we're headed about 13 miles east to Rockland!

Just FYI -- It's Shop 'n Save (rather than the &).
ReplyDeleteAlso to note - that name is also part of Hannaford. Years back, many of the stores used that name (like the ones here in NY), along with several other names they had (like Sun Foods, Martins and a couple others I'm not familiar with). Over time, they opted to convert all the stores to Hannaford, but left the name Shop 'n Save on stores that they were a supplier for but didn't own. We still have a couple of those here.
They have also bought out many (like this one it appears) over the years, probably as the owners get to a point of wanting to retire.
Got it -- and I see that store listed on Shop 'n Save ads now. When I was first researching it, all the records I could find on Newspapers.com were for "Dave's Shop & Save," so I didn't know if it was just an unrelated independent using a similar name.
