Before we begin, just a heads up: this was originally posted in October 2019, but was rewritten with new photos in July 2026. Now for the post! This was a store I neglected to visit until fairly recently, and that's because it occupied that middle ground of being, well, not particularly notable. It wasn't new and exciting enough to warrant a visit, nor old enough to have some interesting relics inside. That's why this didn't make it onto my radar screen until I really set out to visit all the grocery stores in New York City. And because of that, we now have a full tour!

The store is about 21,000 square feet, and set up more like a larger and suburban store than a tiny city market because it's out at the edge of Canarsie, in fact just 500 yards to the Jamaica Bay. It was constructed around the 1950s or 60s as a Food Fair, and while Key Food appears to have opened here in 1998, I don't know what was here between those two. The signage outside was recently updated -- you can see the previous labelscar behind the current lettering, and as a matter of fact the entire exterior could probably benefit from a full overhaul. The inside has seen some updates, such as a new floor, new produce tables, and a handful of other new fixtures, while some older elements ramin like the old-school Key Food logo you can spot on the wall above.

Produce and dairy are in the first aisle, with two short aisles of frozen meat and cold cuts just behind that. Meats line the back wall, with a large deli in the back-left corner. Frozen foods are in the last aisle on the left side.

You can see inside here what I mean about the store's age and interior. It's on the older side, but not old enough to have lots of interesting historical relics, and while it's gotten some renovation work, it's not super-shiny and new. That said, it's generally been maintained rather well, and isn't in bad shape.

You can see the deli signage here, and my best guess is that this interior hasn't really been updated all that much since Key Food's 1998 opening. I don't believe this decor is left over from a previous tenant, but I could be wrong.

At some point, the lighting was replaced and moved from the shelving up to the ceiling.

One more note from the original 2019 post: this store is located just up Rockaway Parkway from the Golden Mango we saw yesterday (that's 2019 yesterday, not 2026 yesterday).
